Believe it or not, not a single time you showed us the matte box with the filters on from the front. So we dont have any idea what it looks like. Impressive.

From the front? I don’t usually operate my camera from that side. Guess I can’t win them all.

Awesome! No adapter rings to suit lenses with 55 front threads like Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary and 56mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary

The VND filter in this set consists of- 2 glasses, which are available - are these two CPL, or one CPL and the other PL? The glasses, as I understand it, are pressed against each other, and one of them rotates relative to the other. Is it possible for me to remove one of the glasses myself so that it is already a full-fledged CPL filter, will the normal rotation of the CPL and a change in the degree of polarization be ensured? And then put the second glass back in place, and I get the VND again? If you can do this, then why buy the cinema kit version, where CPL is added?

Thanks for this, great review with insights about how it’s used in the real world. Some questions i had: 1) How’s the weight of the C5 mattebox with the VND attached? Do you see any issues clamping it on a smaller photo lens? 2) is it still possible to screw on circular filters with the adapter attached to the lens? Thanks!
@BartJohnsonProd Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! The weight is nothing that I would be concerned using it with smaller lenses. Unfortunately you cannot screw on filters while using this mattebox.

Question: I have a circular mist filter (82mm). Is it possible to use my mist filter inside the C5 matte box?
@speedyfast93 ай бұрын
Hi I was wondering if you have used this with the 18-55 Pictor? I was having a problem with vignetting with the tita mirage on my fujinon 18-55mm on my red Komodo and was looking at this to remedy this but can't really find any information on this. Have you noticed anything? Sorry for the odd question.
@BartJohnsonProd14 күн бұрын
Are you referring to the 20-55 Pictor Zoom? I do have that lens but have not mounted this matte box on it. I will have to try it out and see if there is any vignetting.
@speedyfast913 күн бұрын
@@BartJohnsonProd Hey nvm I got it and used it on my Fujinon, there is vignetting if you use the full Red Komodo sensor fyi but not as bad as the mirage. Thanks for getting back to me though!

The 4x4 cpl is a intresting one. I'm looking to get a mattebox, cpl and bmist filters for my fx6 and 28-135mm, the camera already having 1/4-1/128 vnd makes me not need nd, but cpl for outdoor/ocean and car shoots, and blackmist for cinema and music film shoots. Tis could be an option, but the unremovable topflag could be the deal killer, also I'd like to have option for side and bottom flags as well, which this don't have
@BartJohnsonProd Жыл бұрын
I agree the non-removable top flag is a bit of a pain!

Can i use the PL + 1-5 vnd stops + 4nd all at the same time? Bc i shoot mainly cars and the cpl is a most to have

Is there really no way to remove the flag by removing the screw or so?
@BartJohnsonProd Жыл бұрын
There may be a way to disassemble it and remove it, but no easy on-set way to remove it. I am out of the country right now so I don’t have it in hand to see how hard it would be to disassemble.

Someone who bought the matte box recently posted a review on B&H saying the design has been updated with a removable flag.

Thanks, I am between this and the Mirage... Hard decision..

I owned the mirage for about half a year but I wasn't happy and then sold it. Disadvantages of the Tilta Mirage mattebox: 1. The VND filter has a really strong green tint and on everything under 35mm you can forget the upper range of nd because you run into cross polarization. If you buy the mirage with intent of using the vnd, I cannot recommend it. 2. Apart from that you can basicly only use their not so great vnd together with one of their circular proprietary lens effect filters produced by vaxis but the Nisi C5 uses industry standards (4x4 and 4x5) and the Nisi filters are amongst the best in the industry. If you do not like the Nisi ones, there are 100s of others. Disadvantages of the Nisi mattebox: 1. It is pricier than the Tilta comparitively because with the Tilta you get the wireless motor for the same price for that you get the full kit of the Nisi but on the other hands you are basicly forced to buy better filters if you want the best colors which than makes the mirage more expensive. 2. If you have a 15mm rod rig for your camera the mirage comes with an adapter for that, which gives the mattebox with all the expensive filters a second securing point other than the clamp on force to 95mm ring. . In this video, I didn't see a mounting point for a possible (thirdparty) adapter in the future. I use Nisi's True Color VND, a solid 3 stop ND and their Mist 1/8. All are awesome and so much better in terms of color and consistency compared to Tilta / Vaxis.

@@kunterbuntfilm Thanks for the informative response, I agree with everything you said and came to the same conclusion by watching many reviews, Only bummer with the C5 apparently is no way of taking off the top flag but it is what it is.. I just bought the NISI True color system screw on Kit and will eventually get the C5 as well. Thanks...

I have used the Mirage, but am not a fan of needing proprietary sized filters to get the full use out of it.

Crap. Should have removable top flag and optional side flags. The only good thing about Nisi is that they are not forcing you to use exclusively proprietary products, unlike Tilta and Polar Pro.
