People like to make fun of the “brown” lip colours of the 90s, but it was never brown-brown. It was spice as she said, or a terracotta. It was hugely flattering and much calmer and laidback which was the vibe. There were two 90s, really. The grunge look and the supermodel look. The supermodel look was polished and winged eyes and red lips, and the grunge look was as described.

Im so addicted to your video’s. Brings back so many memories. My grandmother was a teen in the 20’s and my mother a teen in the 40’s. One of the best memories I have is sitting at my mom’s vanity table in the 60’s looking at all her glamorous beauty products. She was NEVER without red lipstick. And just today, I received a vintage Tweed powder and puff in the mail, that I ordered, that was my grandmother’s favorite scent for on my vintage vanity…it sits beside my Loves Baby Soft. Im one happy “girl!”

Great review. I'm 61 so I can remember all of these products in some way. My maternal grandma was born in 1918 and I remember her speaking of Tangee rouge that her older flapper cousins wore. I'm sure they wore the lipstick too. My grandma was a big fan of 8 hr cream and Visible Difference skincare by Elizabeth Arden. Maybelline still had cake mascara in the 80s, I tried it once and the results weren't bad. An affordable lip pencil trend in the 90s was Wet N Wilds # 666 which was a spice color for 99 cents which was popular with celebrities and make up artists. Thanks Laura Jane 💖

I thought cake mascara was either banned in the 60s, or maybe just voluntarily taken off the market?? It was because it needed water to create the creaminess but women were using saliva. Hence, the compact became a teeming petri dish of bacteria and eye infections followed. I remember using the cake mascara (properly!) because it was cheaper and lasted forever.

I would be very happy to go back to the 80s or 90s. Actually 90s fashion is making a huge comeback now, sharp tailoring, bold colours and sleek silhouettes, love it. My favourite of the beauty items you mentioned is the Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair serum. It’s a must have item in my nightly skincare routine.

So funny, I met a woman in her 70s about 15yrs ago as they were camping next to us for a week. Her skin was so beautiful. Hardly any wrinkles. Of course I complimented and asked what she used. She said her entire life she only used Ponds Cold Cream. I was floored. She said she used it every night. My mom was a big Oil of Olay fan. She would try other stuff but always went back to Oil of Olay. She was cute and loved hearing her say Oil of Olay with her accent.

My mother used Ponds until the day she died. She was 88 years old and I found four jars of it hoarded in the bathroom cabinet. She had great skin and got compliments all the time on how youthful she looked. She never wore any makeup except Revlon Fire and Ice (!) but switched to a popular Rose Wine(?) color lipstick when she hit her elderly years.

Angel’s Face powder was still sold in the 1990’s. I remember one of my school teachers re- applying the powder through the day. So, when I was a teen, it was the first powder I bought. Then it suddenly disappeared from store shelves. It was cheaper than Cover Girl, smaller teal blue compact without a mirror. It was scented and had a great coverage.

They sell the Kissing Potion rollerball lip glosses at Tinte Cosmetics. You can find them online. The scents and formulations are just like they used to be. They also sell the Village lip gloss tins from the 80s. They have all the old flavors and have added a lot of new ones. All the packaging is the same as the original.

I’ve used Night Repair since its inception in the 80s. Would not be without it-it’s probably the best all around serum on the market today. I mix it in foundation to make it more glowy and it’s perfect to help hydrate and heal the skin if the face gets too much sun.

So everything used to be about soothing and protecting skins moisture and they didn’t use retinals, peels, etc. What happened between then and now that we need all these exfoliation? Revlon has Fire and Ice perfume too. I didn’t know things like pH lipstick and eyeshadow sticks existed long before today’s era. As I’ve aged I realize things look good on people because of THEIR features and energy, like I would look ridiculous dressed as a Bohemian and would feel more at ease with the 50’s looks.omg I loved roller ball lipgloss. Also the lip balms in the sliding tins.
