Great channel. I had been exposed to most of this already but I learned a few things. Cromagnon, I did not know. The Monks, I was expecting them but I guess a video like this could always be less long than whatever some random person on the internet thinks! The 70s one I just watched was mostly all new to me, but for the last three or so.

Listened to a couple of tracks from Nihilistic Spasm Band. Reminds me of Ornette Coleman crossed with Pig Face. I’m picturing some square with Browline glasses walking in accidentally and having his mind blown - like Joe Six Pack watching the first Twilight Zone episode - Where is Everybody? - in 1959. Makes me proud to be an Ontarian. -- I paused the video to check out The Shaggs and it also reminded me of Daniel Johnston. It’s definitely more listenable than NSB. But the images you showed combined with the music give off this 1970s horror movie vibe. -- Thanks for surfacing this history.

I've pushed The Shaggs on my friends since the 90s, It's a litmus test of sorts. After that The Residents one of my top 3 Faves are a walk in the park. 😄

Yes! It was a classic move! Sometimes when I was kind of annoyed by my visitors I would play things like Trumans Water, Trobbing Gristle or The Shaggs...it worked! 😅

Yeee-essir, heh. Residents and Beefheart are my go-tos when feeling testy. The Shaggs kind of stand alone as possibly the most iconic of all the outsiders (sorry-not-sorry@TinyTim). They were _trying_ to be "good" - by their standard somehow at least, so I don't dare associate them as some nihilist "f it all's" or punks either.

I'm new to your sight as of today and I subscribed, because I'm also into researching and listening to obscure music. For the last 15 years I've been researching 60s Garage Rock, Fuzz, Proto-Punk and Psych. I don't know if you touch on those music genres? Being Canadian, I'm sure you've heard of "Bent Wind"? Canadian psych, 1969. "H'tuom Tuhs" backwards for "Mouth Shut" by the "Missing Links" of Sydney Australia 1965. The song was recorded backwards almost a year before the Beatles did it on their Revolver album. Interesting piece of music for those interested in the obscure.

I love mid sixties garage rock. Thanks for telling me about the Aussie band.

Great list! 8:59 I still think Frank is being funny saying that “the shags” are better than the “Beatles” since we’re only in it for the money.

Utterly fascinating, and forensically pertinent to 20th-Century western culture. I can't help but be interested as an avid absurdist born in 1970s Contra Costa county California (literally under _the shadow of Mount Diablo)_ 15 miles from Altamont. I have a few strong memories/impressions left - California in the '70s was like another planet. On the other hand, an awful lot of this is awfully close to seeming like (or outright _being)_ "Inbreds on Acid". _"Thanks for the oblivion" @ CIA, 5eyes etc_
