@@tracy_cakkes Problem is colleges do a lot of gatekeeping. They stuff the well paying degrees with a lot of unrelated difficult classes that you don't entirely need. GPA killers. Like as a Software Engineer I can guarantee you don't need Calculus. Most of the time I just Google the math formula and the code does the rest, like it's supposed to do. I haven't actually written a math problem since college. I have a friend graduating med school soon. She doesn't use most of the math from college. From what she says, most doctors she shadowed were terrible at math; but they are geniuses when it comes to diagnosing patients. Because their job is a doctor, not a mathematician.

I do agree-you can walk out of college with a 4 year degree in say operations research or general studies. If you have no idea how to job interview, write a resume, apply for work, zero internships/zero work experience, have no clue how to spin "I hauled garbage for 8 weeks at 6 flags summer after my sophomore year of college" into something like "I was responsible for maintaining a clean environment for guests and employees" your gonna be screwed. Also, if you bust out on internships (it happens, even to the best of students) and you do nothing to seek out employment in the field you want to work in (even if it means teaching a bunch of girl scouts how to code, volunteering your coding skills to a nonprofit or talking to a temp agency about finding something related to what you want to do after college) a good degree is useless. Also, you can take a useless degree and spin it pretty good *if* you know how to present yourself to employers. There are employers out there willing to overlook "useless" degrees like Liberal Arts or Gender Studies if you know how to present yourself and work history and have a game plan.

An individualized major can be very useful if you do it right. Some schools just don't have degrees in certain majors that other colleges do. They often do have the classes necessary for such degrees, but haven't created degree programs in them. A good example of this is financial engineering, which is a useful and employable degree. Most colleges do have the classes necessary for a degree in financial engineering, but undergraduate financial engineering degree programs are not very common. In cases like this, an individualized program in which you gain a useful degree not usually offered at the school can be a good path.

I worked as a middle school math teacher MANY years ago. I "fell" into it quite by accident. In those days, teachers had a tremendous amount of power in the classroom. It was a respected profession. Eventually, many like myself left the profession because the ability to do a good job was stolen by upper management. I went into law enforcement--AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I eventually retired out of that profession. I would not recommend public education or law enforcement to anyone today. Thanks for reading.

Shane, this ought to be your flagship video. Not necessarily because it's the best, but because with this video it's easy to understand what you're trying to accomplish. It's taken me awhile to get it myself, but as you continually say, you're not trolling people, but attempting to stop them from making a terrible mistake. The degrees mentioned here are really not that different from some of the bogus "research articles" professors try to foist on the world to justify their continued employment. With these useless programs, the professors are hoping enough suckers will be tricked into/sign up that the university will keep them on as faculty meaning they won't have to get real jobs. This video illustrates that perfectly and it's the perfect introduction to your series. Watching this will definitely help people understand what you're trying to do.

The restaurant industry is brutal (going to a walk in freezer back to a hot kitchen, stand all day, deal with crazy ass customers that want their food according to their needs not what's on the menu [I want grilled calamari with eggs on top] and fluffy a.k.a their pet wants to eat too), and is getting worse in the sense that most restaurant managers want to cut staff to the point that one worker does it all. During Covid-19 is not looking good for restaurant workers.

Culinary arts isn't useless. If you want to work in restaurants, sure you can build a career without a degree, but cooking careers have a shelf life and a degree cuts 75% off of the first half of your career. For large food service outfits like Sodexo or hotels or cruise ships you could start a career based solely on a culinary arts degree, no problem. Sure, making cafeteria or buffet food isn't the most glam career but being able to call in sick, have benefits and paid vacation, and in many cases be able to transfer to different places around the planet just because you want to experience it is makes it a pretty decent career if you've got creativity, a thick skin, and a strong back. Beyond that, being a young person that can whip up the tastiest meal some folks will eat all year with the shit they have lying around in their pantry has some significant social advantages. I got out of the industry and am back in school, but every single one of the guys I worked with that did stints under Thomas Keller and the like had a formal culinary education. Restaurant and Hotel Management is even more straightforward. You can absolutely break into the hotel business with one of those degrees and it's pretty unlikely a larger nicer hotel would consider someone who didn't have significant other related experience that didn't have a degree.

I can see why someone would want to teach middle schoolers specifically. Some teachers are in it to help the kids get through life problems; no better age than middle school for that. It is weird tho; it's better just to get a secondary education degree in some specific area

I like what he said about the dance thing. I was thinking of maybe minoring in it, but he has a point - they dont rlly care about education, they just care about ur actual dance talent. I just wanna focus on being the best dancer i can be without taking some random classes to fit the minor 😆
@deannadubinin80432 жыл бұрын
The only reason you would want to go to college for dance is if you wanted to teach it in a higher academic setting. By this I mean if you want to be a college dance professor or a dance instructor at a higher ranked dance school :)

Glad I dropped my psychology degree before getting into more loans it’s useless if it’s only undergrad degree if your going for your PhD or becoming a psychologist it’s not useless I dropped because I wasn’t able to handle grad school work or PhD work if I can handle the work I would have became a psychologist to help those in need

I would only obtain the cosmetology degree if it was two-years and if you were passionate about being a professional make-up artist, owning a salon/make-up business, or teaching the subject.

You can make a decent living in cosmetology nowadays especially if you go independent from a salon. People who go into hair, nails can make a comfortable living especially if they do all kinds of services like extensions, coloring/highlight services. There are also seperate certificates for things like nails, eyelash extensions but the cosmetology degree allows you to do be able to do all those things. A huge thing about these degrees/certificates is to make sure you are educated on health safety standards. You are still touching people's bodies and what not and possibly working with chemicals/tools. It also saves your ass from being sued by some defaming idiot. It may not directly serve society in the big picture but they are skills that are in demand and it does make people feel happy. It is good for people who are creative types to convert their artistic talents.
@YellowLittleDucky2 жыл бұрын
Its true. Cosmetology studies are not bad at all. You can study make-up, nails electrolysis. Some only require 2 years. Real world applications include working as an indepdent artist, salon, wedding contracts, film sets and videos. Beauty industries are always profitting. Way better than puppetry and gender studies. Cosmetology also teaches you better understanding of the skin and safety standards. Very important fir prebenting fungal infectiom or damaging people's bodies or faces.

My college had a 2+2 pathway which is you major in general studies the first two years and transition to your intended major for the last two. If you're not a college student yet, please dont do this lmao. Don't enroll in school unless you know what you want for sure. I spent hella money on general studies and never even finished 'cause now turns out I wanna travel & get my private pilot license 💀. With all the money and time I spent on college, i could've been an airline pilot by now.

In Switzerland, Middleschool teaching always is raking in six figures. You’ll need a diploma for it and two or three bachelors in a number of fields. Also the burnout rate and number of teachers leaving is so high, You’ll get a job guarantee. The maximum is 150K at the highest state pay level, coming with eleven weeks of holiday.

What are the worst college degrees? 2018 Worst College Majors Rankings Radio & Television. Anthropology. Graphic Design. Paralegal Studies. Art History. Music. Exercise Science. Religious Studies. What degrees are in demand? Most In-Demand Degrees Health Science. Health Science and Healthcare Administration is a promising career choice as medical technology and average life expectancy continues to increase. ... Information Technology. ... Engineering. ... Business Administration. ... Finance. ... Human Resources. ... Education. ... Psychology. Do grades matter in real life? Grades do matter. There may be flaws in many grading systems, sometimes in the education system itself, but letters and numbers do still hold value. It may be a tough truth to swallow, but you're only hurting yourself if you pretend like grades don't matter. Does life get boring after college? The truth is that life after graduation can be really, really boring most of the time. And if you want your life to be interesting and fun you have to work to make it that way. You have to find the things that make life worth living. You have to explore and be creative. What can I do instead of going to college? 8 Practical College Alternatives Vocational education and trade schools. Trade schools and vocational education provide you with in-depth knowledge of skills needed for particular careers or trades. ... Self-paced free and paid resources. ... Travel career. ... Apprenticeship. ... Military. ... Online college. ... Entrepreneurship. ... Work your way up. Is it OK not to have a degree? You can do just fine without one. You'll always need a university degree to be a doctor, a lawyer, or a biochemist. But for jobs in sales, administration, non-profit, software development, media, and many other areas, you probably don't. Even if a job description claims to require it, they might not. Why is college life so hard? Image result There are many reasons why college might feel so hard, and these are often very personal to everyone. The lack of structure, the harder course work, and the independence and responsibility all create an environment that might feel harder and more stressful than high school. Which majors are the smartest? Physics, Mathematical Sciences and Philosophy are among the majors with the highest IQs in America, according to research. University data experts at Educational Testing Service have ranked the top majors based on their IQ - Physics and Astronomy come out on top with 133. Why can't we have free college? College Might Not Seem As Important If higher education at public schools becomes free, it might appear to devalue a college degree. It might also lead to students cutting more classes or not trying because they don't have to “get their money's worth” when they aren't paying for anything. Is college a waste of time? No, college is not a waste of time. Any time spent learning is never wasted. Learning doesn't have to be in the college environment, but there are many valuable lessons that you learn while attending college. These lessons happen in and out of the classroom. Is college hard for introverts? College is challenging at times for all students, but for introverts, it can be especially difficult. While more outgoing students can easily make friends and navigate their way through crowded classes and social events, introverts may often feel uncomfortable and left out. But it doesn't have to be that way. Why is college life so hard? Image result There are many reasons why college might feel so hard, and these are often very personal to everyone. The lack of structure, the harder course work, and the independence and responsibility all create an environment that might feel harder and more stressful than high school. Is it OK to struggle in college? Struggling in college isn't uncommon, and the sinking feeling that comes with poor grades can discourage even the most determined student. But that doesn't mean you need to throw your hands up and call it quits. Why should universities not be free? Persistence among college students will decrease. Private colleges will suffer enrollment declines and financial hardships. Free college does not address occupational shortages. Free college will not help solve “crippling student loan debt” Why do kids struggle in college? Not Adequately Taking Responsibility. College freshmen, when facing poor academic results, tend to look for places they can deflect the blame. They may cite poor instructors, noisy dorms, lack of time, or not being graded in a fair manner. Poor grades, in hindsight, could generally have been avoided.
