I have had a strong belief for a long time that the Holy Spirit could very well be a female entity, but never discussed it because those at church never do. Mary, being the mother of Christ, makes so much sense to me, that She would give birth in mortality to the firstborn of heaven. The Holy Trinity consists of the father, mother, and child - family, the most basic and sacred unit known to man. I am so very grateful to have come across this video this morning. I am grateful to you for presenting the paper and sharing your testimony and beliefs on this matter. THANK YOU! I wish you well and look forward to getting your book and reading it.

This is a beautiful analysis and confirms what Joseph Smith said, "we believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it's translated correctly". I appreciated her trail and comments that parts of Revelation are unknown as well as the appearance of damage in Isaiah and someone messing with the stories. I will admit to having a challenge with fundamentalist "Christians" who insist they understand everything the Bible has to give and bully others using ridicule. The beautiful fact of this presentation is there is so much more to read, study and interpret. If the Holy Ghost is a woman or if a Mother in Heaven has had and continues to have influence on mankind, that is extremely motivating and emotional.

Barker’s contribution to scholarship on the religion of the First Temple is immense and I’m happy to see it attracts both Mormons and Orthodox Christians. I care little for mainstream western Christian viewpoints on her subject insofar as they are biased against her scholarship that complicates Godhead in a way that opens to both LDS and Historical Christian theology. Protestantism has focused on a more ‘Deuteronomical’ take on religion closing the door to the older tradition both which informs ancient church history and its root in the revealed faith of the Patriarchs of ancient Israel.

I enjoyed her lecture so much I searched and found several more on this subject and also found them to be well worth the time spent watching them. Very much recommended to anyone interested in the beliefs and legends of the peoples of the eastern Mediterranean. Much of this shares content with the KZbin videos on "God's Wife" also The Queen of Heaven and several other Goddesses of Israel and surrounding peoples. I had purchased the Book "Did God Have a Wife" by William Dever and after reading it I listened to the Author give some lectures on the subject then Margret Barker showed up on the Recommended videos on the right side of the screen with several lectures on The Mother of Heaven and I found much common ground and overlap in the information in the videos. Very interesting and William Dever includes a lot of Archeological materials including numerous inscriptions to God and Ashra on pottery and also many small clay images of Ashra. This is a very good lecture by Margret Barker and she has several to choose from I watched several and they complemented those by William Dever very well

Did I miss the point of this? I'm not the most intellectual person but is this in reference to the hymn O My Father? Because I read the passage in Revelation to mean Mary the mortal mother of Jesus. Right? The Bible isn't implying a Goddess, correct? If this woman were implying the Bible speaks of a Goddess, she would have ro denounce her faith and accept Joseph Smith or denounce Christianity altogether. Joseph Smith is the only that implied otherwise. Am I misunderstanding this?

I have always believed we have a Heavenly Mother and that she helped in the creation process. However, I cannot wrap my head around the Holy Ghost being that person. There are no vowels in Hebrew. Their customs/beliefs/law tells them to read the Torah each year to receive a different understanding or teaching. The entire language and scrolls are designed to accomplish this. She clearly stated this a few times. Greater knowledge of truth removes fears of receiving. The scholar community openly accepts over 900 translations of Genesis 1:1. Instead of demanding proof of truth, attempt to prove wrong through your OWN research and not just videos from others.

I appreciate her research but I don't think it is all that inspired mainly because she is not part of the restored gospel. If mother in heaven was part of the temple why would she not be restored in the Book of Mormon or in D&C or in our temples? I don't think that is right that she is saying. Also the fact that she believes that Heavenly mother is the holy ghost is also wrong concept. However, I believe that perhaps there were mention of heavenly mother in the old testament that might have been changed, that is plausible. I can see how Eve and Mary could be a type of Heavenly mother to tell a story or symbolize a certain aspects of her story and that she is the mother off all of us.

Ruach is a feminine word in hebrew the equivalent in Greek is neutral and masculine in Latin. The notion of holy spirit being masculine as opposed to feminine is a product of Latin not scripture. "at the right hand of the Father" was an idiom. You can't take it literally, or else Jesus would have literally been sitting in the right palm of God. This was clear to Jews at the time that Christ had the fulness of the power, glory, and authority of the Father. This is not proof God the Father is a separate God or that God the Father has a body. Regarding God: The Father cannot be seen (John 1:18) The Father is in unapproachable light (1 Timothy 6:16) The Father is the invisible God (Colossians 1:15) The Father is Spirit (John 4:24) Spirit has not flesh and bones as Jesus (during His incarnation in the flesh and after His resurrection) has (Luke 24:39)
@daric_7 жыл бұрын
Also, Joseph Smith taught clearly before his death that the godhead is composed of 3 separate gods. And Bruce R. McConkie taught in Mormon Doctrine that there are an infinite number of gods. To say that this is opposite of the monotheism taught by the Bible is a vast understatement. Just being clear.
