I get that the old battle axe is trying to make things right with Shiyi by giving her a gift but an apology goes a long way. Taking full responsibility for Lianfang's actions by changing your viewpoint and acting like a human being can be a stepping stone to a harmonious family. I love how Lingyi stand up to his mother and fights for Shiyi's right to continue working at the embroidery pavilion.

Giving a gift is not the same as admitting you are wrong . And grandma didnt even apologized to Shiyi. And with all that sorry excuses of apologize she went back and tell Shiyi to stop working in the embroidery shop

Exactly....she couldn't even muster up enough courage to apologize to her. If it wasn't for Shiyi actions Lianfang would've destroyed the entire family. She doesn't deserve to be the matriarch of the Xu family.

I can't feel any sympathy for Madam Luo, she was an evil, conniving, wretched human being, she framed Shiyi of breaking Yuannniang's item so she could beat her knowing her mother was going to cover her and caused her to miscarry, she knew Tong was dead and still used her to blackmail Amber to do her bidding even wanted her to try a seduce the Marquis, she definitely interfered with Yuannniang and the Marquis' marriage, when Erniang miscarried and got sick afterwards, she framed Erniang's mother for stealing and locked her up in that damp room and when she got sick Madam Luo wouldn't let anyone visit her nor would she send for a doctor to treat her, she knew she was going to die and wanted Erniang's mother to die with her, and she tried to interfere with Shiyi and the Marquis, all she cared about was Yuannniang and Zhun. She should have suffered a painful death.

She was not roasting you. She was agreeing. It's sad that all women during that Era did not have much choice about their future in life. Shiyi just so happened to have a talent that would have made her independently wealthy if her parents had continued to ignore her. Lianfang's mother's political views, it seems, was what swayed Lianfang's actions. She had already at a young age decided that no other man would do but the marquis and that, with her mother's encouragement would do anything to achieve her goal. The problem was she had decided to get rid of anyone who got in her way including the whole family. She just wanted it yo be her, the marquis and their children. Being sent to the nunnery not as a baby or young child, especially not as an orphan with a full head of hair fully grown by your husband was such a big punishment for a wealthy woman who had security was like maximum prison. And it was also a wakeup call for her mother because she officially had no one to take care of her in her old age since Lianfang was her only child and she had to live in shame with the family she married into since she was not the main wife. They were from a powerful and wealthy family, this had to have hurted politically their status. It had to make you wonder that when the marquis strongly suggested in the beginning that she marry someone else in a years time to save her reputation, why didn't her mama push her in that direction? Why didn't her mama see this coming in the beginning?

@@angelamosley8476 I certainly agree. When the man told you he didn't want you at all and then detested you after you played that trick to force a marriage -- even agreeing to be a concubine hoping that he would hug, kiss, and sex you and it never happened even after marriage she should've just given up and asked for an annulment. Instead she killed the first wife, tried numerous times to frame and destroy, even kill, Shiyi, hated the Marquis children, and did so many treacherous things until I can't believe the shrewd grandma nor even the Marquis or any other family members couldn't tell she was a psychotic murderer.
After all that's gone on there are still schemers at the Luo home too when that woman told the stepmother about what happened to Yuanniang knowing it would cause a reaction. Unbelievable the stuff that goes on (and knowing things like that can and do happen in real life)
