water spouts hammering (?) dragons from the sky is an amazing visual. water magic raising the water table in one spot could also be lowering it in another, which would make a targeted spot in Dorne uninhabitable. I was wrong, the Rhoynar are super powerful in Dorne, but in a long term way........like Doran's plans. hunh.

As a Florida native thoroughly invested in established the jaw structure and snout shape of lizard lions. I will point out that crocodiles are mentioned as a something Maesters are aware of. Moreover the more Nothern climates of the Northern Rhoynish deltas would put it more of alligator zone then the more southern crocodile and caiman area. Now all of this is in a fantasy book so who cares, I think a lizard lion is like a komodo or a dire iguana.
@DavidLightbringer2 жыл бұрын
dire iguana lol. Good points, and yeah it could be any sort of komodo like thing, that would work

1:48:09 @David Lightbringer, remember though in our own world whales were mistaken for sea dragons and serpents for centuries too so the fact that george uses the term Leviathan for whales which was also a multiheaded dragon in the bible and based off of the Hydra and Tiamat says something about the nature of sea dragons. By referring to whales as leviathans george is indirectly calling them sea dragons. Maybe Sea Dragons are Mosasaur-like reptiles. George has flirted with the idea of dinosaur-like and other prehistoric creatures in his world after all we have woolly mammoths north of the wall, Dire Wolves also north of the wall and Scythed Lizards in Sothoryos so it’s not at all out of the question what sea dragons might actually be or look like

Im watching the replay and Im at the part where lizard lions are being discussed and I realized something. In the world of ice and fire, while talking about sothorios they talk about crocodiles. If lizard lions are just crocodiles why dont they call them that? I could be wrong of course but I took the book to be from the point of view of a maester. If thats the case the lizard lions could be different. George seems to like to add creatures extinct from our world into the books like dire wolves and mammoths and a few others, so it stands to reason that the lizard lions could be a similar thing. Especially with the bits about the marsh kings riding them. Maybe they have longer legs and walk better on land and could potentially be ridden. If the only descriptions of lizard lions we get are the ones with them in the water where we only see their backs then they could be different from crocodiles in more ways than just being taller.
@DavidLightbringer2 жыл бұрын
This would make sense to me, sure. You raise a good point
@mistermaestersirthomas91642 жыл бұрын
Not sure if there is a translation error(s), but there is a South African myth/legend of a “dragonslayer” girl who fights “lizard lions” dragons. There’s a “frog people” element, “a magic tower”, and a “old woman” guide to boot. I would bet, if I was a betting man, that lizard lion is a hint towards that story.

Hi LmL, I am thinking of the Werirwalkers video, and how the Green Men become White Walkers. Here, the dragon lords are turning into weir walkers. I understand that even with the weir walkers, there was Azor Ahai/Night's King magic involved. During the Rhoynar conquest, the dragonlords themselves seem to be turning into the white walkers, as opposed to them turning green men into white walkers. Could this be related to the fight inside the weirwood net you have talked about earlier, between two factions?
@DavidLightbringer2 жыл бұрын
it's all about what aspect of the thing George wants to emphasize in a given scene, I think. Sometimes it's about "defiling the wood," somtimes it's about the hubris fo the dragons, etc. With the war of conquest, or any example where the fire flips right to ice, think of that as the story of Azor Ahai's bloodline. The weirwoods are like the womb or medium through which that transformation occurs. Or you could even get into a potential overlap between horned dragonlords and horned green men, perhaps there's a baphomet-like common ancestor to green men and dragon people.

53,54-ish you mentioned that turtles are a sign of favor for George. reminded me of the turtle in the Volantis market (the size of a horse?) (I can't recall if it was in Tyrion's or Quentyn's trip). Not surprising, given their slave population outnumbers the slave owner population 4:1. George is ready to turn that city to dragon kindling.
@richardwithanarr2 жыл бұрын
I looked it up. Quentyn. "The Merchant's Man" chapter, even has crabs which you compared to spiders. "The fishmongers were out in strength, crying the morning catch. Quentyn understood one word in two at best, but he did not need to know the words to know the fish. He saw cod and sailfish and sardines, barrels of mussels and clams. Eels hung along the front of one stall. *Another displayed a gigantic turtle, strung up by its legs on iron chains, heavy as a horse.* Crabs scrabbled inside casks of brine and seaweed. Several of the vendors were frying chunks of fish with onions and beets, or selling peppery fish stew out of small iron kettles."

Kudos for a great stream! I find it interesting how the Mediterraneans are the darker ("less Caucasian") Europeans. I also find it convenient that the Spanish "discovered" areas that have the same climate as theirs -- Latin Americas and Philippines (looks and sounds like the Summer Islands!). Colonization and/or migration? By the way, Philippines is the only predominantly Christian country in Asia, but coexisiting with lots of animists in the North, and Moors in the South. This also reminds me of Prince Caspian, the heir to the throne in Chronicles of Narnia. The earlier kings and queens were Andal-ish, while centuries later Caspian and his family were more Rhoynish.
@tesspulido Жыл бұрын
Aaaand.. Caspian's ancestors were also lost mariners. Their family is called Telmarine --> Martell!

The Rhoynar remind me of Native Americans. They lived in harmony with the land. They had their own separate tribes/kingdoms, but mostly respected each other’s territory. And they were mostly welcoming to foreigners, happy to share the bounty of the land, and those foreigners eventually took over their land. And in Native American myth, the land was on the back of a giant turtle.
