So the issue I have with this is it's not just reaction time. It takes time for your eyes to lock onto the ball. With a softball, you can see it the whole time during the pitch, but with a baseball, your eyes finally lock onto it 15 feet after it's delivered. With this in place, a 100mph MLB pitch has an equivalent speed of 135 mph based on reaction time.

You cannot see the ball the entire pitch in softball. At the rotational velocity of a D1 pitcher, the ONLY place a batter can stare is the release point. The batter hopefully has a sign from the 3B coach, but probably not, due to the propensity of the out of glove style to hide the grip.

It's actually 43 ft. But everything else is great. I like how they said just as difficult as baseball in this video. Softball isn't harder but the same amount of difficulty.

Quasimoto44 yup anything to skew the results for PC purposes. Jay like they emphasize the 5 inch difference between release point and where it can cross the plate for a strike. But not saying that a baseball starting at 6 feet off the ground can cross the plate 18 inches off the ground. Just a tad more than 5 inches. Also softballs basically change trajectories only vertically. Baseballs can be manipulated to break in out down down and in down and away. Be thrown to break into the strike zone or out of it. There is no comparison. Hitting a baseball is much harder. And yes I have played both

I am not sure what I was referring to but it appears that someone said the pitching rubber was at 40 feet. It is 43 feet. But at release it could be at about 37-38 feet.

Actually there are a more horizontal curveball, and dropballs. Screwballs have a marginal amount of movement. There are also combinations.

Your talking college age ball players. At the adult/pro-level men’s fast pitch can be in the 80s mph and up. I have a son in law that has been throwing fast pitch for almost 30 years and at 50 yrs old he still throws in the high 70s and low 80s plus a change up drop pitch that drops out of the sky about 7or8 ft from the plate. I know it’s a personal preference as to which is better, or more fun, for me fast pitch soft ball is a faster more entertaining sport. Oh by the way soft ball is misleading there are different hardness’s of balls some are almost as hard as a hardball plus they use aluminum bats which increases the hit speed of the ball.

You can’t say softball or baseball are easier than the other because the two sports have completely different elements that make it harder to hit And the balls are completely different sizes so even though a softball mound is closer that doesn’t mean it’s harder to hit because of the ball size, and a baseball mound is farther but the ball directory is true so it makes baseballs not moving that much more easy to hit but softball has the same pitches, So I say both sports are harder than they look. But what from I’ve seen, youth softball pitches are so slow, but that’s not real softball so it doesn’t really count Plus It really depends what batter and hitter is being used to determine what is harder

Slow is relative. A girl throwing at the top speed and with accuracy for their age group is going to strike a lot of people out.

@@happy8kiddo If you watch some softball, you'll see that those pitches change planes also. Softballs change planes up and down. There are several examples of MLB players being struck out by male and female softball pitchers. If they were throwing on one plane, that wouldn't happen. But a baseball is smaller and the softball bat is bigger than a baseball bat. Also a metal bat is easier to swing than a wooden bat. And I think there are 10 players on a softball field rather than 9 on a baseball field.
