Mr blobby is the best thing Britain has ever done. I was born in 91 and had all the videos and merch. I'm loving his revival as a pro wrestler

I worked in a toy shop for 20 years and Blobby Mania was one of the first I experienced when I was allowed to get on with it/other staff couldn't be bothered to deal with the customers and I had to fend off angry people myself(!) It was certainly a trying time and my favourite being a dim-witted parent promising their child on Christmas Eve that they could come back tomorrow (Christmas Day) and they would get a Mr Blobby toy then.

I liked what he was originally, a fun way to prank minor celebs who thought he was a genuine kids show mascot. But when they drank their own koolaid by making him an actual mascot, they lost the ironic humour and he just became an obnoxious twat.

My first proper introduction to Mr. Blobby was the Red Dwarf A-Z special, probably back in 1999. It was only maybe a few years ago I got any real info on the character from KZbin (esp. Kim Justice). There is actually a clip of Mr. Blobby being told he's not going to America with Noel that I keep in a playlist for when I'm feeling sad. It never fails to make me laugh.

I'm not from t'UK so I didn't know Mr Blobby until now. The first question I have is why a there's a children's TV programme featuring a character which seems to be quite narcissistic, naked and has a look on his face like he's into substance abuse (I mean, look at him!). And this wasn't even the 70s! I don't mind the reskinning of an existing game that much but why had it to be such an unremarkable and boring title? It's just... nyeh. Thank you so much for the video, it's good to see that your son is well (despite trying to kill himself in the oven)! Great stuff as always. 🙂

As an American, I remember the first time my British friends, uh... exposed... me to Mr Blobby. I legitimately did not believe it was a real thing. My brain rejected it. @CuterwithCatEars Жыл бұрын
The one in Somerset did ok, but suspect that was a case of timing, because the Somerset one opened at the peak, while Morecambe and Gotchaland in Devon (a really unpleasant idea to take over some nice Botanical Gardens and make them a disappointment for lols) both opened after it was clear Noel and Bobby were on the wane. Had to pass Gotchaland on the bus to school as a kid. The gardens were sold and returned to normal a year later. I don't think the Gotchaland part lasted more than 6 months

Adding another comment just to say: I think the Mr. Blobby voice filter sounds exactly like the filter that the Max Headroom signal hijacker used back in 1987. I bet if you listen closely you can hear Blobby say "I still see the X" and calling Charles Swirsky "a frickin liberal".
@cecelias_ Жыл бұрын
Tbh Blobby makes sense if you think about Noel Edmonds selling his soul to the devil for fame. When hashing out the Faustian contract, the devil decided to include a clause where Noel now has to be the caretaker to the shittest demon in all the Hells because nobody wants to be around Blobby
@cecelias_ Жыл бұрын
Also I live down the road from the old Cricket St Thomas safari park in Somerset, which had a Mr Blobby ‘village’. 😂 The park got sold to Warner Leisure Hotels and they had to bulldoze all remaining Blobby architecture a few years ago because far too many urban explorers were trespassing (apparently)… the real reason was that the abandoned Blobby park was a rave hotspot. Imagine dropping LSD while listening to techno music in a building that’s a fibreglass shell of a house supposedly lived in by British TV character nobody under the age of 25 remembers. I think I’d be a gibbering mess

I'm not sure they are an apples to apples comparison. Blobert at least had mild comedic violence of a sort. Barney was all wholesome and loved everyone. He never fell down jumped on other people. Plus, Barney was clearly a virgin who had no wife\husband (I don't know if Barney has a wang or a vajajay) Slapstick humor is not high comedy, and Blobbington didn't even do slapstick well, but at least it was made to be laughed at, unlike Barney's (alleged) education value and positive attitude being sickly "sweet" There is possibly one person in the world who was so massively wasted that s/he snickered at Bloopy's mentally deficient antics. Nobody ever laughed at Barney un-ironically.
