You've long been breaking open a lot of games and shovelware which i think, due to aggressive marketing, many of us were too ashamed to admit having played (and even liked) as a kid. That and your candid approach to discussing mental health is authenticity I can get behind. Take all the time you need.

I never even knew there existed Sea Monkeys games, as I am old enough to already have gotten scammed by actual physical sea monkey kits. So I'm pretty sure I would not have gotten a sea monkey game, as I already had a bad taste in my mouth from burning allowance money on actual physical monkeys and drinking the water afterwards in an attempt to collect the insurance money. I did, however fall for Spore, the over hyped non-game where I definitely couldn't make actual life and watch them bang in 720p glory. It was not rated "M" for mature, and it's my fault for not checking out the age rating beforehand. And I also got burned on Pikmin 4 because I was pretty sure I saw a deviantart thread by the real Miyamoto saying Pikmin 4 would have actual Pikmin intercourse and the consequences thereof. Once again, I should have checked the game's rating before I bought it. Now I'm starting to worry that no one will ever program the perfect alien monster sex simulator. For PS VR.

There’s times that it is hard to remember this, but please know that at least there are people on the Internet who believe in you and will listen when you need to talk. You’re an amazing person, and a great creator. You may not always like yourself, but I hope that there are many days you can look in the mirror, and be proud of the person looking back. You have every right to be proud of what you’re doing. Stay strong, get the help you need. You deserve a life of joy.

I don't know if I've ever seen brine shrimp, but around here (and most places?) you can just scoop up some pond water and a bit of the underwater vegetation and you get a bunch of amphipods (called "scuds"). This game looks more like instant depression, not instant life. Also hell, something about this game is seriously off, like if aliens saw a Sea Monkey commercial and then tried to make a video game based on that, this is what it would look like. "What is it, little Humons? Do you not like your little Lake Apes?" Now, a shrimp life simulator, that would be neat.

I used to have all sorts of tanks for them as a Kid, the little Handbooks were pretty much a mix of random bollocks and a Catalouge, most daft thing was the food they scented with Banana to make you think it was a treat for them. The real thing isn't so bad if you're a more Sciencey kid but those games definately would've been left in the Bargin bin where they belong.
@Zanji12342 жыл бұрын
sea monkeys are quite "unknown" here in Germany.... BUT we have Urzeitkrebse (prehistoric crab) which were THE hit in children / kids magazines in the 80s till mid 90s. The "Mickey Mouse Magazin" and "YPS" both had them several times (the YPS magazine had more plastic gadget and toys and also bigger compartments with the eggs and food but was more expensive) but i've seen some ads for them also in other... comic books i think. I can remember that i was confused since they sounded like the Urzeitkrebse i knew but they looked WAY to different (on the pictures) which made it clear that this was a fake and OMG Creature labs O_O creatuers was for a long periode my favorite PC game :D

In 1992 they had their own live-action kids TV show called "The Amazing Live Sea-Monkeys", created by the Chiodo Brothers (of Killer Klowns from Outer Space fame) and starring Howie Mandel. Speaking of those weird comic book ads, in the 1960s you could order actual monkeys through the mail. This did not usually end well for the monkeys. The late Gilbert Gottfried talked about this a few times on his podcast.

A good way to run an old Windows OS these days is on a free emulator. 86Box does an amazing job of emulating a complete older PC on a modern system. You can set that up to emulate a Win 98 era PC, install the OS onto that, and you're off to the sea monkey races.

My dad used to "breed" brine shrimp to feed his tropical fish, and as a teenager it was entertaining watching them being chased around by the fish and ... er... eaten, but I can't imagine a tank of them alone being entertaining for more than a few minutes. Years before that I remember them being in the comics I read as a kid (Whizzer & Chips and The Beano) and even as a gulible 8 year old I guessed they would be nothing like the adverts.
