Totally agree there's a perverse satisfaction of learning the paths through each of the levels on Yolanda and clearing the trial. We had one, too, cobbled together from the e-waste cupboard at my dad’s job. This would have been the late 80s and I had a Hercules graphics card, kind of ironic considering the subject of today’s video. (Letter ega and finally vga in like 1991 probably). We had to use tin snips to cut open the case enough to fit it. Good times.

Fun mythology bit. Hercules/Heracles got his incredible strength not because he was the son of Zeus, but because Hera was tricked into breastfeeding him and he bit her, drinking both her milk and blood. I guess the other stuff she does kinda retracts from the fact that she is the mother goddess. Also that metal bra must be some kind of torture by Hera. That's my head canon.
@ObviouslyMadeupnameАй бұрын
Nice to see a video on Yolanda! Especially one that actually gets that it’s a memory/skill test and not really a platformer in the truest sense. It’s one of the Amiga games I always show people if they’re interested in retro games, it being the absolute antithesis of today’s dead easy, don’t-put-anyone-off, press-circle-to-duck-under-the-fallen-tree games. Oh, and Yolanda was made by the same team as the James Pond / Robocod games. Great video.

Hera did go after Zeus, and their arguments were epic. But Zeus was more powerful than all the other gods combined, and ultimately whenever she even came close to directly opposing him he smacked her down. Instead, other people got hurt. Like Hephaestus, who was crippled for life and nearly killed because he got in between Zeus and Hera when Zeus was smacking her around, and was grabbed by the legs and thrown down the mountain.
