Handheld PCs had been around for years beforehand from vendors like GPD (hell, Linus has covered several of them in the past on the main LTT channel), but honestly the tech simply wasn't up to par for the most part to do any kind of real gaming other than light emulation. I will give the Steam Deck props for bringing them into the mainstream though.

@@cloudGGs I can't stand when people bring up the Switch. In no way is it the same or even in the same class. One thing you might update is the reasoning for recommending the middle one. 50$ for the jump from 512 to 1tb is pretty reasonable, the small ssds still haven't really materialised in the same cheap and available manner as the large ones and unless you already have a 1 tb lying around you'll definitely pay more than 50$ for that (of course you'll also have a 512 in the upgrade mix to add to that value and in my eyes 512 is totally enough on these, especially when you add in a micro ssd and offload some of the lighter indie games)

Does the screen support VRR? If not that seems like a good advantage to the Ally still. I will say I am pretty intrigued, but I need to see performance numbers before I decide if I want to upgrade my Ally or not. And then there are the upcoming Ayaneo devices to consider, the Emulation enthusiast in me is SEVERELY tempted by the Flip DS with the new Ryzen 8000 mobile chips and that secondary display would make it perfect for DS and 3DS emulation. So many choices in handhelds. Thanks Valve for showing there was a main stream market for these devices.

Coming from Razer Edge Pro 2013 with its big handheld, I can say Steam Deck and Lenovo GO are huge upgrades. Razer pro tablet came with WIndows out in 2013 and cost almost 1000 dollars for the Pro series. The battery life was about 4 hours on average, not sure why the battery can't last longer with these new devices. I still have my ancient pro and play it from time to time. I hope they find a way to optimize games to make the new handheld tablets last longer in terms of battery life.

Convert typical capacity to Ah: 4700mAh / 1000 = 4.7Ah Use the typical capacity and power consumption to calculate theoretical runtime: Runtime (hours) = Battery capacity (Ah) * Battery voltage (V) / Device power consumption (W) Runtime ≈ 4.7Ah * 11.61V / 35W ≈ 1.56 hours. For me both a sim slot and oculink port are a must to me for a hand held. I know the GPD win mini can use a sim card but its using the sim adapter for the GPD WIN 4 (name might be wrong but its the one with the side kick style sliding keyboard). If the updated 2024 model works well with sim card AND continues to have oculink (not shre why theyd drop it) i will buy one. Both as a phonr and a PC repalcement.

My most recent MSI is the Pulse GL66 and I am looking forward for this one to get sold in Europe, especially The Netherlands, although I don't mind driving a bit into Germany.

The trend is really good for us second hand hunters. With more competitors, the more abundant the supply will be. At this time, it’s just better to get a new one price-wise.

Haven't found that channel yet that's just an archive of Dennis' ad spots. Need to show people these, they're amazing.

1:24 Hall effect sensors: Something could go wrong at some point, maybe. Electronic does after a time, eventually. Potentiometer based: It will go wrong sooner than later. So, now what is the better option, hmmm? Despite what Valve said, the real reason is that hall effect based is more expensive, and that adds up.

I gotta say, buying a steam deck was one of the best choices I have made to date and it gets WAY more use than my wildly more powerful gaming PC. Seeing other companies just into the industry is a great to see.

I've been running MSI for years, from laptops to desktops. Im always happy with their products and customer service is great. The only thing i can say they need to fix is their software dragon center but everything else, products is top 😊

I've been eyeing the different handheld gaming PCs for a month or so planning to purchase sometime in the spring/summer, so I will definitely hold out for the release of the claw. Appreciate the solid information as usual.

Ah, yes. MSI. The ones who make laptops whose screen hinges break after a year, they blame the user, and want 300$ to replace the broken parts.
