The Mumbai Coastal Road Project | Full Project Details | South-bound Lane Inaugurated

The Mumbai Coastal Road Project is being constructed on 111 hectares of reclaimed land, starting from Princess Street flyover to the Worli end of the Bandra-Worli sea link. The project is almost complete, with approximately 83% of the work already done. According to officials, the project is expected to be ready by May 2024. Once completed, it will help to reduce traffic congestion on many arterial and adjoining roads in South Mumbai. Despite facing various challenges, the project boasts several key features. Time and again it’s proved that just adding road doesn’t decongest but induces more traffic. What Mumbai needs is multimodal transit system which includes metro, water ways, light rail, RRTS, bicycle tracks,, BRT, improved local trains, walkways, pathways, and high speed roads. And above all it needs urban planning like Amsterdam and few other European cities and not like North America which is only car dominance society. Also it’s not a 5 year or 10 year plan but it needs be continous process each day and every day, every week, every month, and every year. As long as Mumbai exists traffic problems will be there; question is how we manage them and be on top of it and not lose sight. I am not saying this won’t help for some days it will but we will be back to same problem once more traffic is induced because there is more capacity. Much more efficient and cost effective measures needs to be implemented.

It's sad to see the developing world making the same mistakes as America. This money would have been better spent on building a 1st-class metro. The new bus lanes will help but ultimately, if you build more car infrastructure, more people will buy cars. And in 20 years, you'll have the same problems American cities have with car congestion. I appreciate the green spaces added along the route however. That all being said, I am so happy that Bharat is growing and coming into it's own. The thing is, people already have a lot of cars here, the traffic can sometimes take hours to clear, making metros is a good option but metros can't be developed overnight, they'll take a lot longer than road infrastructure, making roads gives us quick solution to our problems and some breathing space for us to develop infrastructure of other kinds of intercity transportion. And we are developing metros at a swift pace too, the best thing about this government is that development is a lot more uniformly distributed in several parts of the country not just big cities like Mumbai and Delhi. And yes a metro is being developed in Mumbai too, the problem was the unstable regional government, but that's been fixed now. Hope you enjoy your time in India when you visit.❤

the northern phase of this coastal road is actually something that could be a game changer for the traffic, as it is impossible to go from bandra towards andheri during peak hour. Also a lot of traffic is due to these construction projects itself (the metro, coastal road etc). maybe situation gets better when these projects are done. But one thing we should take note from delhi's case is, more lanes,wider roads usually dont solve traffic issues. additionally. people in this country don't know how to drive, don't follow lane discipline(especially rickshaws and two wheelers), dont understand the concept of tailgating(since we dont value time and are always late, thus everyone tries to drive like an idiot making the matter worse). So yeah the infrastructure development is a great move , but i would say most people in our country don't even deserve it. all the promenades they will make by the sea as a part of this coastal project, would just be full of beggars, thieves, illegal slum dwellers(who would be parallelly politically supported as a votebank), every place would be full of red spit marks from the pan masala(which the government wont ban because of the high taxes it collects from these substances) and there won't be any fines stopping people from doing so, people would be eating street food and just throwing trash on the street. In the name of religion (irrespective of their religion) , anybody would just put up horrible loud music on the streets and start dancing and causing more noise pollution and traffic hindrance, and many other things which would ultimately make the whole place filthy and disgusting. This country needs a lot of reforms in basic civic sense before a coastal road. Unlike putting all the blame on the government, i think we are to blame to take such a great nation for granted.

even with BJP government, this project is still under construction where it should have gotten completed by now, thats how backward we are as a nation. Can a boat or ship not pass from under a 60 m distance between two pillars? Nonsensical demands. Also why was the bandra to kandivali phase not given clearance ? god knows when will that be built. An average citizen pays with his time and money while politicians, environmentalists, and these politically funded local communities enjoy everything go their way. Scums literally everywhere.
