I think the scariest part of this scene, perhaps of this entire film, is when Burns is alone, semi-blind and lost in that dark tomb, with the mummy stalking him. His dark silhouette at the end of the hall just reeks of horror.

5:10 I love how they gave a badass like Rick a good dose of empathy. The way he turns to go back(but realising it is already too late) to help the servant, and the way he tries to Help Beni later on in the film, even after all the things Beni did to Rick, just shows how badass O'Connell really is. That was a case of super terrible luck. The Mummy gets gradually stronger as he absorbs the people present when the chest is opened, he can't absorb other humans. When just awakened, he was very weak, having regeneration but unable to turn into sand or even move too fast, if Burns hadn't been present when the chest was opened, if Burns hadn't tripped and lost his glasses, the Mummy probably wouldn't have found them, it was little more than a blind, brittle person. Even after the first encounter, the Mummy got what had to be the crappiest set of eyes in Egypt (the Medjai managed to save Burns right in front of his face), and still ignored who else opened the chest by then. If he hadn't bumped into Benny (who casually happened to know the people who opened the chest) he would've been a semi blind cripple alone in the desert forever

Fun Fact: Nobody can read anything written in Egyptian hieroglyphics ALOUD with any degree of confidence, b/c we don't know much about what that language sounded like. The scribes routinely omitted all the vowels when writing things down -- even sacred texts and the Pharoah's laws -- since any native speaker of Egyptian would automatically know the vowel to use, anyway, its pronunciation, and what was meant. We can do this in English: Y knw y cn! Without the vowels, however, the range of variation in sounding out the words is vast, as is the range of possible meaning for certain words -- e.g. in English, must/mist/most/mast are all different words formed by the substitution of different vowels. No, the Rosetta Stone did not help here, actual native speakers of both High and Low Egyptian are long gone, and context only goes so far in pointing to the right translation.

Can we just appreciate that Rick is always holding Evie's hand throughout the movie. In the beginning when he rescues her on the boat, at 1:19 before they run from the locusts, when they return to Cairo and the asteroids hit and they hear a noise upstairs he reaches his hand out for her to take before going to investigate. I'm sure there are other scenes escaping me. But this is why Rick and Evie are the ultimate OTP! Even before Rick's feelings became apparent he was always holding her hand or making sure he was within physical distance of her at all times. One of my favorite scenes that displays how much he cares for her is when he stole the American's tools for her and was willing to shoot the Americans when they tried to steal her digging spot and take back the tools he stole for her.

The original film is nearly 90 years old and also HASN'T AGED A SINGLE DAY. Boris Karloff was one of the greatest! Ever since I was a kid, when Imhotep steps out of the shadows and the music kicks in... Chills every damn time.

I was born in 2004, so I didn't even exist when this movie came out. However, it is my favorite movie, it is the movie that made my childhood more beautiful. I remember exactly the first time I saw him. It was summer and I was at my grandmother's, I was 7 years old, the movie was on TV. I instantly fell in love with the movie and I think I watched it at least 20 times.

It doesn't matter, i saw Jumanji first time in 2006 (i think) and it came in 1995. Just because you didn't exist the time when the movie aired first time, doesn't mean it can't be your favorite. :)

1:37 The locusts shown the scene were mostly computer-generated, but a number of live grasshoppers were used for the shot; the grasshoppers were chilled in a refrigerator to make them more sluggish and easy to film.

This is one of the few films that only gets better with age. And it's thanks to Stephen Summers for going a more action/adventure route, while tying in the horror elements of the original.
