I’ve always liked the end. He tells Evie to run and she stays and helps him, Imotep begs Anacksuman for help and she runs. The hurt in his eyes really shows you how true love is supposed to look and how they both feel bad for him in the very end.

I agree. I did feel kinda bad for him, especially after the way Anck su Namun abandoned him like that. You can tell that Anck was only using Imhotep so that she can get what she wants. She totally deserved to die.

@@jonathansmith8672 I feel more she was terrified of the underworld. She was there for thousands of years, remember, but she wasn't so much a coward as she stabbed herself in the first movie. So for me, I think the underworld that was grabbing Imhotep was the difference. I don't think she was 'using' him exactly (She was the Pharaoh's mistress, what was she lacking?) but her love clearly wasn't as strong as Imhotep's.

She'd worked so hard to get him back and to see all that fall apart was her "nope" moment of panic and self preservation over love. People freak out all the time when pushed to the limit. Evie's death is absolutely CRUSHING. You see it's effect on Rick right up until he sees her alive again. Then you also see how he responds to seeing her again. You can literally see the burst of adrenaline surge through him as he recovers from being knocked down and worn out.

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has credited Brendan Fraser for getting him in this movie, which was his first movie of note and led to several stand alone Scorpian King movies which gave him a ton of exposure and basically kickstarted his film career. Johnson had great things to say about Brendan when he won his Oscar for The Whale.

​@@kirschakos Yea, he was only in the first one which was an actual spinoff. It grossed 180 million world wide, with a 36 million opening weekend in the US. That's about half of what The Mummy Returns did a year earlier. That was the movie that showed Hollywood he could open a movie as the lead. He was able to skip the crappy WWE movies others had to do to launch their careers.

Its called pulp fiction. Every adventures, sci-fi and spy movies using thrope from pulp fiction comic. Pulp fiction comic were huge thing from 1900 - 1950 before comic took over. The theme always about damsell in distress, supernatural, spy, detective noir. People Who grew up reading those comic later produced the monster universal from 30's to 50's. There's plenty B movies from 1950's using similar plot from pulp fiction comic. The reason why sequel sucks in every post 2000 movies because they try to deviate from pulp fiction formula. I would said the first movie using every formula of pulp fiction and thats why its works. This sequel is weak because they try to expand the story but ignore the thrope of pulp fiction. FYI zorro, flash gordon and John carter is from pulp fiction era

The Brendan Fraser Mummy movies are also more specifically imagined as 1920s matinee adventure serials, as were Indiana Jones and Star Wars. They were continuing stories released in episodic format, and not beholden to pulp fiction tropes.

The PERFECT sequel. Characters have advanced, older, wiser. They've learned from each other. Everything is in its logical place at the beginning. There's no drastic change between the first and second films to force a sequel. Like if it were other series, Evie might've been dead/they would've been divorced, Rick might've been a drunkard or somehting.

This is one of those rare sequels where not only is it really good but they bring back familiar beats and the original characters plus expanding the setting and story to a larger exciting scope sort of like Home Alone 2. Rick and Evie are still madly in love and are so badass together equally side by side, we don't get movie couples like that anymore. The amount of times I watched this was insane, this and the first Mummy movie are the only ones that should be acknowledged.

Love that you said the Scorpion King looked 'unnatural'. Usually people say it looks fake, but unnatural is actually a fairer assessment. They didn't have the Rock for reference when they were animating that scorpion which, for the record, is why it looked so 'unnatural'. This was Dwayne Johnson's first film by the way, he was purely a wrestler before it.

The callback to Jonathan and Evelyn figuring out the stork symbol from first movie was also neat, along with all other callbacks. Personally when i first watched it, i became a fan of that little peregrine falcon that managed to crawl back after being shot and delivered the message to the Medjai! What a hero 👏🏽😅 A good adventure movie, one of my favourites and back in 2001, it was the first time i watched a movie alone in a theatre (back when we didn't have cellphones and me and my buddy ended up watching it two rows apart since we couldn't locate each other before the movie started😅😅)

I'd have to disagree. The Spartans were renowned for clashing into, or making a wall to repel attackers. Whom were they repeling or attacking if they were the only ones doing it??? Alternatively, Athenian and others at the time, developed the bow and attacked from afar (something Spartans looked down on). There was a historian/professor on a History Channel (Peter Weller) series (forget his name) who really spoke in a riveting way about how such battles occurred and the different fighting styles based on Era and country/location. Basically, head on collisions (infantry) occurred until the bow. The bow was offset by lancers/chariots/cavalry. Depending on the Era and advancements in technology, you are partly correct, but infantry has always been around ready to have head-on collisions with other infantry. One of the reasons why Kings (and later generals) leas troops into battle and why inspiring speeches were so important and noteworthy in history. Otherwise you think such bolstering by William Wallace was simply a creation of Hollywood???

@@wal6377 the Spartans are described as being disciplined enough to maintain a phalanx while closing the distance and then slowing down to engage in the “pushing”, we don’t know what actually occurred in phalanx combat because the ancient Greeks wrote more about the formations than anything else. The bow existed before the Hellenic Greek city states… as did slings which were used by everyone including Sparta. Charging into people just looks good for Hollywood, same with the speeches. Having a king monologue to about a hundred people out of 30,000 soldiers isn’t going to make a difference.

If you didn't notice when Evelyn fell off the boat , that's what happened to her in the past life as well. Nefertiri inadvertently leaned too far over the edge of the balcony and fell to her death. Despite having perished, Nefertiri's soul was cast adrift into the currents of time to be reborn once fate deemed the time right to revenge herself upon Anck-Su-Namun. This is why Evelyn is a reincarnation.

Trigger squeeze vs trigger pull - Rick is showing some legit marksmanship skills with that statement. In marksmanship, we teach Soldiers (or anyone) to aim, breathe in, breathe out, then squeeze trigger. A slow, easy squeeze, it should almost surprise you when the gun fires. Pulling the trigger creates a jerk on the rifle, even a small jerk will have significant impact when shooting a target more than a few yards away. Similarly, breathing can cause the rifle to gently move up and down with each breath, hence inhale, exhale, trigger squeeze.

If you love Rachel Weisz as Evie, then I totally recommend missing the third Mummy film. While it does have a decent story, there are just too many moments throughout it that make you question the decisions of the entire production team, one being their poor choice in casting. Maria Bello is a great actress, but I don’t think they could have cast anyone worse to play Evie. Rachel Weisz is absolutely adorable in the role, and Maria Bello does not have that special something that Rachel had to help her pull it off. It’s a fun film, but it’s kinda hard to watch at times, my main issue being Maria Bello’s unconvincing performance.

As crappy as the CGI on The Scorpion King was, I love the fight between Rick and Imhotep, as well as the one between Evy and Ankhsunamun. Autism fueled observation/side notes: 1, That snake that Evelyn kicked towards Rick is actually a milksnake. You can tell by the band pattern (red, black, yellow). If the band sequence was red, yellow, black, they'd have something to worry about, because that's the band pattern of the venomous coral snake. Also, real scarabs were actually just dung beetles, who actually lay their eggs in balls of giraffe, elephant and rhinoceros dung. 2. When Jonathan says "Hang on, Rick!!", My first response everytime is "I don't think he was planning to let go" In the first movie: 3, After Evy unknowingly awakens Imhotep by reading the Book Of The Dead. and the locust swarm flies into the encampment at Hamunaptra, the locusts are actually grasshoppers that were refrigerated to make them sluggish. 4. In the desert race to Hamunaptra, you see camels and horses. Horses are faster, but camels are adapted to life in the desert. Even though they do eventually have to eat and drink, camels can live off the fat reserves inside their humps, their long eyelashes keep dust out of their eyes, and their feet are big and wide to keep them from sinking into the sand as they move.

I also love how little Evie had to read from the book to wake Imotep the first time, but how much they had to read from the book to wake him the second time.

@@LucianDevine It was also kind of hilarious and cute how their son Alex had equal parts of his parents' personalities. Rick's bravery and smart mouth and Evelyn's brains and comprehension of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics.

Now that's how you do a sequel to a cinematic masterpiece! I can't think of ANY original/sequel combination where the story, thrill and characters are so pefectly expanded upon. The Mummy is 10/10 in my book, while the sequel might be a 9.5/10, but since it's such a good matchup, we might as well slap them together in combo viewing experience and round that number to a 10/10 again.

Been waiting for this reaction since the first one, I knew you both would love it! And to answer your question, this was Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's first movie EVER, followed up immediately by The Scorpion King, his first lead role ever. These two films instantly made him the next top leading man in Hollywood, especially The Scorpion King, which came out in 2002, the year after The Mummy Returns. I would highly recommend that one for you to review as well, very similar vibes to The Mummy films, and the launching of Johnson's Hollywood career out of the WWE.

Love this movie! While the CGI wasn’t great, it was still fun and action-packed, overall a decent movie. And my favourite character is either Ardeth or Jonathan Haven’t seen the other movies, but I’ve heard it goes downhill after the 2nd film

THEY'RE NOT SPIDERS! 🕷 The ones from the first movie that get under your skin are Scarab beetles and the ones in this movie you saw were scorpions, hence, the Scorpion King. Yes, there were a couple of spiders mixed in, but please understand, not everything that moves is a spider 🙄. It's not an owl, it's a falcon. Squeeze the trigger to maintain a steady aim,if you pull it,there's a chance the barrel will jump slightly and you'll miss your target. Funny when you said Rick was giving you Tarzan vibes, since he also played George of the Jungle in the film adaptation of the cartoon that parodies Tarzan (full circle). You'll like the Magii guy in the Resident Evil franchise. Anyway, loved the review, love you guys, take care and stay safe ❤️

As a straight man, I think Oded is a very handsome guy. There's a fun scene in Covert Affairs where he and Piper Perabo are both trying to seduce the same person for their respective spy agencies, and are immediately outed as spies because the victim realises that no-one is lucky enough to have TWO people that good-looking interested in them simultaneously.

"squeeze the trigger don't pull it" is common advice given to new shooters. It is especially important on longer range shots to minimize the movement of the gun barrel. When doing a long range shot holding your breath or squeezing the trigger on a exhale gives you a steady aim as opposed to slapping the trigger with a quick motion which tends to give your hand and the gun a slight jerk.

Hey y'all! Most of this movie I really liked, though the first will always be my Favorite. I love the Past life flashbacks that Evie was having, it gave much more insight to her character and sort of what lead up to the Pharoah's being killed. I've always had an interest in Egyptology, these 2 movies were so enjoyable. Though it is a shame the CGI for DJ when he was half Scorpion wasn't better. But it is what it is. The weird little creatures in the Oasis were- Pygmy Mummies and were only there to kill intruders to tried venturing into the area. Enjoyed watching! 😊

If you love the family dynamic, you absolutely must watch the third film. It follows a grown-up Alex on his own dig, and the troubled relationship he has with his dad. AND, it begins with Evie having written their adventures into popular romance novels. A good continuation of the series, with its own happy ending. Do please reconsider watching the third (last) Mummy film.

These two movies are still favorites of mine, because they’re the cutest couple; the dialogue is fun and intelligently interesting; the acting is great; but everyone was mad at Evie for exploring what she should not...again. Lol! The little boy was perfect too. Rick is adorable and charming, or ruggedly agile in saving everyone. All while being ruggedly handsome too. He’s like a less jaded Indiana Jones, without the archeological expertises. Yet he’s not dense. They’re one the healthiest movie couples, that show respect, love, playfulness, great teamwork. It’s nice to see. I don’t remember why I don’t love the third one, but I’m pretty sure it had something to do with their relationship storyline.

There is an episode of Scooby Doo Call Where’s My Mummy. The leader of The Majie actually voices a charector in it and him and other egyptian charectors give education things at the end and it’s so cool, I loved it!

Archaeologist here, so funny enough, we do have records of a real life Scorpion King. Two in fact. This was during a period known as the 'Scorpion Wars' where both north and south Egypt were waring with each other. It wasn't until King Narmer conquered both sides via marriage alliances that Egypt became united and started the First Dynasty.

I love these girls, but holy moly, I've never heard anyone ever in my life refer to the obvious skeleton monkeys in the forest as "tree people"!!! lmao😂. I still can't stop giggling from these 2 just being themselves. And to top it off, they seemed genuinely freaked out by the horrific & most ridiculous cgi of the scorpion king that is right out of a bad video game. Every person who watched that was the moment that took all of us out of the movie with a great big wtf moment. But not these 2 gals. Truly love their reactions.
