Scotland is one awesome place, but we really need to plant more native trees to restore the landscape.

Ever since I was a kid, Scotland felt like a distant home. I already went to Belfast and had a very natural connection with the people there, one day I'll come and visit you and I have no doubt my experience will be similar if not better :)

Very late to this discussion, but I wholeheartedly agree. Both there and in the lakes.

Thank goodness others feel the same! Every time I’m on the hills I feel a sadness when I see the barren landscape.

@@snufkin84 Slowly, very slowly indeed some native trees are being planted. It's cathedral planting, ie, we won't see them mature, but our grandchildren will, but is is happening.

Plan on doing either the south or north ridge sometime this year.

The 5 Sisters is an excellent walk, best done E-W for the views. To the east is another fine walk of 5 Munros/tops, best done W-E. The South Cluanie ridge is marvellous and can, if you're very fit, be extended to include Sgurr na Sgine and The Saddle in a very long but epic day.
