The fact that she took that pain and turned it into a shelter to help others speaks volumes! What a wonderful way to use your pain and anger. My heart (& praise) goes out to her and to all the other gay and trans out there who suffer untold horror's and all because we live in this culture that fears anything that is different.

I am from Mexico and I know Kenya Cuevas, she is honestly the bravest more corageous woman I have ever met, she has now found the mna who mourdered her friend Paola and is now in the process of going after him legally, she has been in movies and everything now! She has come so far, I love this woman!

There is a youtube chanel named El otro lado del rosa/ The other side of pink. The host interviews Kenia Cuevas which the creator and now director of this shelters. She talks about her whole life. She only learned to read and write four years ago. I cried listening to her lifestory nd just thinking about all the hardships, rapes, violence etc. That she had to go through. But God has his plans for her. Kenia Cuevas is now the voice and mother of all this transwomen that have been abandoned by society. God bless her heart.

That's how I learned about her. I don't listen to that podcast but it started playing on auto play after another show i was listening to while I was cleaning. I had my headphones and couldn't find my phone so I was kind of forced to not change it, but omg after like 10 minutes I couldn't even consider changing it. It's super long but an amazing story. She is such an inspiration.

Here in Mexico is very dificult, since a lot of people are extremely religious, conservative and racist towards the lgbt+ community. Kenya has managed to do all her work by threatening and pressuring goverment instances and protecting her self in the same way. She's doing a hell of a job in a country where corruption makes a m*rderer free and the victim turns to be the guilty one just 'cause they choose to live with freedom of expression. But, if I'm not mistaken, she's doing a lot to try open safe houses in different parts of Mexico.

We trans people have it bad already in the US I can’t even trying to make it in Mexico . I don’t understand why there has to still be a stigma being trans and for men that choose to date a trans person. Just live and let people live ..why is that so difficult to do..there should be more exposure on the trans community as a positive thing instead of the usual stigma ..we have made huge steps moving forward with race (yes there’s still racism unfortunately) why can’t we do the same with the Lgbtq community?! Because we can’t move forward many are forced to sex work and turn to drugs . I’m thankful I have broken that and I’m self employed live well but it didn’t come easy . Men are harder on transwomen because they are afraid of the attraction they have and what people will think not realizing that there are many many many more that are thinking the same . It just comes down to education and being open to listening. Quit being so bitter judging people you’ll live a more meaningful life ..js
