You want to talk about Star Trek music, well good sir, you have my interest (and a new subscriber). ;-) Star Trek The Motion Picture and Star Trek The Wrath of Khan scores are my personal favorites of all time.

❤ I've gotten several requests for Wrath of Khan on IG. I might plan that one out sometime.

The door whooshing sound also has a human voice component to it.

When your explaining what a third is, I really think you need to specify that there are two kinds, and that they are NOT the same interval.

@@fromchomleystreet That's true (actually more than just two kinds) but the point is that all traditional Western chords are built on thirds, regardless of the type.

@@DavidAsherBrown My point was that not specifying the distinction is going to be misleading to some people. If one didn’t know better, one could easily be forgiven for thinking you were saying those intervals are the same size. A minor third is as much different from a major third as a major third is from a fourth. They are not the same beast at all. When you say “more than two” are you talking about tuning systems other than 12TET?

@@fromchomleystreet Thanks for this point. Even though thirds sound different, it wouldn't be accurate to say that Western chords are built off of just major thirds or just minor thirds. Rather, they're built on thirds collectively and entirely. So major and minor thirds do share a special status that is not shared by fourths. As far as other types of thirds, it's more of a technicality. A third is defined by the letter name of the note. For instance, a C of any kind (C sharp, C double-flat, etc.) up to an E of any kind is considered a third. If you had a C-sharp up to an E-flat, that would be considered a diminished third, even though it might sound the same as a major second.
