And let me just go on record as saying this is the best song that has ever been written.

It is hard to argue that point. I think that I would probably go with "Close To The Edge" But it is close.

I would have to agree about Close To The Edge. But they are both epic masterpieces and on any given day I can still listen in awe to one or the other
@raelraven38 жыл бұрын
Personally I'd take Supper's Ready over Closer to the Edge any day of the week. There's a method to the madness in the music of Genesis that I think is sometimes missing in Yes. My feeling when I listen to Yes is that you have a bunch of musicians who are obsessed with constantly showing off their technical expertise. The music they made was impressive and on a level enjoyable, but lacks the heart and soul that I sense in the music and lyrics of Genesis.
@WayneE427 жыл бұрын
Wow! Both of those songs are EPIC! I can't choose one over the other. :(

As a Genesis fan from the time I was 10 years old, I suggest seeing The Musical Box to any lover of old Genesis. I was too young to have ever seen Genesis live, but watching this recreation of the real thing was an incredible experience.

If I remember correctly, I believe Gabriel and a few other members said why go see them when the Musical Box does an incredible amount of diligence recreating these shows. Edit: Just looked at the Musical Box's website and Gabriel says, "The recreation is faithfully accurate" and Collins said, "I think these guys play it better than we did"

Don't even know how many times I've listened to SR, and I *still* get goosebumps at the "666" climax. Well done, Musical Box. Will see you this spring.

I just started getting into Genesis. Listening to the albums in order, I'm up to Wind & Wuthering. This has to be my favorite song so far. It's truly amazing. I had no idea they had a tribute band like this. I really hope they, or others like them, tour after covid is through. I'd love to experience this.

Awesome as always. Saw them here in Houston at House Of Blues doing the Lamb show back in 2011. Fantastic. Sadly there were maybe only 200(?) people there and by the encores(Musical Box and Watcher) maybe 100. Still,it was amazing. Some dude even came dressed as Rael. Leather jacket,makeup.

Just saw The Musical Box in Tarrytown. Outstanding! The don't imitate Genesis, they don't try to approximate Genesis, they have somehow managed to embody Genesis. Any early Genesis fans that have not seen this band will certainly be taken in by the mastery and the beauty this band has managed to recapture and preserve. Bravo!

I just saw them again in Mississauga, it was the Foxtrot tour. Absolutely incredible, they did a triple encore, the last one being Can-Utility And The Coastliners. I wish these guys were younger so I could see them every year until the day I die.

+kathy pillow I cried like a little baby! Wasn't prepared for the flood of emotion and truly felt like I had been transported back in time. I couldn't find anyone to take my second ticket so I went by myself. It was almost like an out-of-body experience! Can't wait to hear what you think!!!

+Bill Shafer that's like the 1st time I went to see Genesis in '73. I couldn't find anyone to give the 2nd ticket to, as no one knew them, but I finally gave it to a slightly unwilling friend who was not sure what I had gotten him in to. They cost $9.50 at the time so not much financial loss on my part. My friend was blown away as was I and this of course was the beginning of a long love for Genesis and their members, especially Steve Hackett.They were promoting the Foxtrot album. It's just great that the Musical Box carries the torch for Genesis prog. Bully for them and for us! Oh yeah...soundman...please turn up the Taurus!

I saw this show in El Segundo in Feb 2014, and it took me back to the performance I saw in Mar 1974. Just amazing, 40 years later. I want to see them again. (added later...) This is without question, the nicest looking KZbin clips of this. The strobe part of Apocalypse in 9/8 never translates well to tv, either film, video tape or digital. But the blackilght red mask part is perfect. You make it look on KZbin as it actually appeared to my eyes when I viewed it in person. No one else captured it as well. Bravo and thanks.

buppie2000 I have clips of suppers Ready by Musical Box from Liverpool Philharmonic on my channel but they were very strict on filming, the sound is way better than this version but the visuals suffered because I had to film with my phone case shut lol, a sort of aim at the stage and hope for the best job. Anyway it’s an epic tune well captured by this tribute band.

In the early eighties a school friend told me he went to sleep every night listening to Suppers Ready . Although at the time I was into Heavy Metal it was not long before it was my nightly bedtime ritual. I would agree to the greatest song ever recorded and the thing is I don't really like Genesis !
@neto92787 жыл бұрын
@ThefightingCelt9 жыл бұрын
I always felt that imitating the music , stage set and costumes was a great idea , but Denis Gagne , although doing a good impersonation of Peter Gabriel , nevertheless should have left out the in between song stories - mainly on the grounds that his spoken English and interpretation of Gabriel's tongue in cheek , upper middle class, public school delivery , in no way matches up to his singing interpretation of the great man .
@TheCorrectAnswer568 жыл бұрын
Agree but the crazy stories were all part of the Genesis live experience. You can't leave them out. He just needs to work on his British speaking voice. Every bootleg I've heard, Gabriel is very articulate, confident, well-spoken, witty, and quick in these stories between songs. Quite the opposite of how Denis Gagne portrays him which is more of a stumbling, shy, inarticulate public speaker. That may have been Gabriel in personal interviews but not on stage as far as I know.
@bernios34466 жыл бұрын
Yes, a quite faithful imitation of the show - and somehow a stale spectacle. Unfortunately the singer can only imitate Peter Gabriel's words, gestures and costumes, however he does not have close to the same stage presence and charisma. His voice lacks the force and the very specific timbre which makes Gabriel's voice unique, listen at 14:16 for example. Sure, it is easy to critisize, but as their program is to bring the old Genesis back to life, so this is the standard they have to live up to. The band plays quite well, but the whole thing - to me as a long time Genesis fan - remains a fruitless exercice. Time just goes on, and some things never come back.
