Bill Bruford - after his initial stints in Yes and King Crimson, toured with Gong in late 1974, Roy Harper in 1975, Genesis circa 1976 before Chester Thompson joined, then formed UK, jazz fusion band Bruford, then back again to King Crimson and Yes among other gigs/collaborations including his excellent fusion band Earthworks. His style worked in so many different prog/jazz related areas and he had a great knack for being able pick up difficult material quickly. For bass players, don't forget about Pino Palladino.

I saw Pat Travers play live a few times. The last time I remember was at a smaller club here in the Falls, with Foghat. Mars Cowling was on the bass - an awesome bassist! I don't know if Tommy was on the drums. I think he was. I remember a small guy with bushy blonde hair who was just amazing. They put on a fine show. Pat always put on a fine show, but that night he made a big mistake, insisting on headlining over Foghat. Foghat blew the roof off the place, and then when Pat came out he was pissed that half of the crowd had left. Well, that was your choice buddy. Here in the Niagara area, the golden horseshoe, he was a familiar sight, playing here all the time. People around here never saw him as an arena act, like Triumph or Saga, or some of the others later became. You wanted a good night of bluesy rock, you went to see Pat, but there were a dozen other bands doing that style of music around here. And the other thing about Pat is that he was never very personable. His attitude was always "I'm the rock star and you guys aren't. You're the audience." You never saw him come out after a show to talk with people or sign autographs or anything like that. The guys in Foghat were all hanging out with the crowd after the show, watching Pat play. I was shocked to almost walk right into Rod Price. And right next to him was Dave Peverett, and I looked at them with my mouth agape and they both just laughed, and I just gave them a thumbs up and a smile! Max Webster would hang with people, and a lot of those other bands. Pat had this wall up, and it didn't help him out.
