Is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator similar to the 16 Personality Factor Questionnaire from Raymond Cattell?

No, Cattell's 16PF Questionnaire assesses 16 different personality factors, which were derived from factor analysis, and scores each out of 10. This means that there is a broad range of possible outcomes. The Myers-Briggs assesses 4 theoretical areas and assigns one of two types for each, leading to only 16 different possible outcomes.

@@PsychExamReview got it thank you! I don’t think we covered the MBTI test in our course. Could it be it’s a test used in the States and not in Canada for a psych intro course🤔

@@QuadLife101 It's often mentioned briefly in intro textbooks simply due to its popularity but its not considered a valid assessment so it's not usually discussed in much detail.

Hi! Great video :) How accurate is using MBTI in relationship? Mean, should I considerate my "crush/friend" personality before getting into serious dating relationship? I would like to know your opinion on this :)

I think it's useful to think about personality differences in a relationship but I wouldn't suggest using the MBTI for this. Thinking about Big Five trait differences might be more useful. For example, if one person is high in openness and the other isn't this might be the source of some conflict when trying to make plans. Similarly if one person is very extraverted and the other is very introverted this might not work well. That said, you do still want some differences to compensate and push each other to grow. So one person being a bit more extraverted might push the couple to socialize more often than they would if both were introverted, and that might be a good thing. Or one being more open to new experiences might help the other find new things they like. I'm not a relationship expert, but hopefully this makes sense!
