I recently acquired a vintage ML10 that I believe was originally purchased for and used in an IBM facility in California's Silicon Valley (where I live) it's a lovely machine and the headstock still has zero play, even though it's bedded in cast iron plain bearings. Truly great craftsmanship, I'm really enjoying putting it back into use.

Many years ago I inherited a myford lathe from my grandfather, I have not seen any pics in any of the old brochures that look like it. It had flat belt drive, a gap bed and was quite a decent size - probably similar to an ML7 but the cross slide did not have that extension. Sadly I had to leave it with my dad when I moved to the US, and now that he's passed I hate to think what came of it.

I have a circa 1941 myford similar to the one you have shown. These are unique as when you rotate the saddle handle anti-clockwise, the saddle moves AWAY from the chuck. In all my working life I have never used a lathe like this. You have to concentrate 100% to use it. Would I swap it for a new super seven, yes of course, but it does me and I only paid £40 for it.

Early wadkin pattern makers lathes had a carriage that did the same thing, they later added another gear in the mechanism to make it 'normal'

Very encouraging to hear that Myfords are still made in the UK. I had assumed otherwise. I have two Myfords, both aged, but both work very well. Thanks for these interesting videos.

Must agree about the tailstock. The long nose enables the crossslide to get to the end of a supported part without having the tailstock barrel wound nearly the whole way out..

@@keithappleton The machine tool dealer who used to import Myfords into the US didn't know the were still alive until I told them. I gave them the contact info. I hope they start offering them to US customers again.🙏

I think that is the general idea .......... these are truly excellent Machine Tools and made in England too. The Super 7 "Connoisseur" lathe is exquisite.

Depending where you are in the world, it shouldn't be really expensive. I shipped a 1 tonne machine to new zealand and it was £400. I'm sure myford will ofter a crating service.

They offer factory rebuilt machines for A LOT less than new machines. I ordered my current Super 7 (as a rebuild )last year and It came to about a 1/3 of the money compared to a new one. The only things that I think are from another machine are the headstock casting, drive housing (still says Nottingham on it), and maybe the apron. The rest of the lathe is brand new. Even the bed and tailstock are new. It cost about $5600.00 US. Shipping, import tax, import broker, and delivered to my farm was about $1200 on top of it all. Not what I'd call cheap, but its my "forever lathe". I sold my first Myford (Super7 long bed with QCGB and taper attachment) to help fund my South Bend "Heavy 10" rebuild back in '06. One day I'll get that one back too. BTW, I payed $5400 for that Myford long bed back in '95. So today's price is not great, but not terrible.
