Imagine the agony of a missing loved one, and then you have to contend with racist assumptions about your community. This is rage-inducing. My heart breaks for Tonee and her family
@djinn56582 ай бұрын
It's awful. One shouldn't have to be from a middle or upper class white family to have your missing family member taken seriously. Several years back, there was a pretty upper-middle-class "All-American" girl next door white girl, about middle-school age, who disappeared. There were news articles, coverage on all their local news stations, the whole nine yards. While skimming through the news articles a few days after she went missing, I stumbled upon one TINY writeup about a black girl who disappeared near the same day. One. I kept an eye on the news for the next several days, and the only new thing I saw about the second child was a very short interview of the family. Showing pictures of their shy, sweet, dependable honor student who was excited about an upcoming band competition. But hey, she probably ran off with a boyfriend, right? Because that's what all black girls do? That attitude is absolutely sickening. True, it's awful that any child goes missing, but shouldn't the second child have gotten the whole massive search effort, multiple law enforcement agencies working together treatment as well? The media and law enforcement agencies have to do better.

Tonee is my friend.! It truly breaks my heart that no one ever talks about her, no one knows her story. And no one cares. The police closed the case. And that was the end of the story. It breaks my heart completely. I talk about Tonee nonstop. I tell Tonees story to everyone who will listen. I post about her on Facebook at least once a month. Tonee deserves the same attention Gabby Petito got. Tonee deserves for her name to be known.! Tonee deserves for the police and community to take the time and actually investigate.! Tonee deserves the world and so much more.!! Bring Tonee home.!!!! Please

And I hate to say this but, as someone who watches a lot of investigative reporting and true crime if someone were to unalive her, the very first place they would think of to despose of human remains, is a large body of water. Decomposition in water begins rather quickly, causing the body to eventually sink

There are so many black women that are victims of trafficking and will never know because mainstream media refuses to report on it. There are so many of them that are probably hiding in plain sight and could be easily identifiable if we saw their faces. There are so many investigations detailing how human trafficking works, yet the police, choose not to investigate as much as they can. I pray this beautiful spirit is found alive by her family.

I love true crime and missing ppl videos but I hate that everyone always throw in race all races have thousands of ppl missing so why say if this person was this color it would be different no it wouldn't if this is going to happen to you it will regardless of color
@hopedash53722 ай бұрын
Because it's absolutely true. Have you ever heard of this story before this video? Probably not... there are many more black and indigenous women that are missing and lost with cases the media and police don't care about...this is not a surprise please don't make ignorant statements.
@Bootstataboots2 ай бұрын
I know it can seem like simply a lot of noise when race is thrown into the equation. Yet, the stats are true regarding missing people of color. For Indigenous women and girls, the cases are overwhelming. When was the last time you heard any of the major news cases reporting on a missing Native American woman? For weeks, the news reported on Gabby Petito (a classic example of a missing person the media focuses on). In all that media coverage time, multiple cases of missing persons of different backgrounds could have also been reported on.
@LadyLegendary2 ай бұрын
Just because you're uncomfortable confronting the reality of racism doesn't make it any less real and harmful to people that experience it. Based off this comment, you are either A) White, so you do not experience what is being spoken about or B) not white and in extreme denial. I'm going to guess it's A because even the non-white person who has grown up within a white community (or even adopted by a white family) knows the experience of racism. And yes that includes when our people go missing and crimes are committed against us.
@LisaJBee882 ай бұрын
Hi Kathy, please tell white detectives, officials, and the media that race should not matter when it comes to a missing person. They need the information. We, non white people, know that races does play a significant part in missing persons. You also know it plays a major part in how someone is searched for and I’m sure it’s one of the reasons that brought you to this clip.
