It's hard because victims of abuse don't know what to do. Fawn had to call the police (once she got a phone) for a police escort, get her ashes when the police were there and get taken to a domestic violence shelter to file a restraining order with their help. It's so hard to know these things, though, if you haven't had to do it before. She also could have done this at any hospital visit. To say, I need you to call the police and I need an escort to my home to get my daughter's ashes. And it's easier said than done and freaking scary. I had to escape to a shelter and I made a lot of mistakes along the way. And you are right, sometimes you can't escape. I hate that people like Heather exist in our world.

Why does this sound as though Heather's family has connection in the system? @elizabethyoung17923 жыл бұрын
In Pennsylvania, when a request for a restraining order and or a PFA is filed, it’s granted almost immediately regardless of whether or not there’s evidence of abuse. This is done as a precaution in case the person who requested the order is in danger. As for the Diberts having a connection to law enforcement, that I can’t say for sure. However, the family’s lived in the area for generations and they’re fairly prevalent, so for those reasons, they have some clout.

This is why inter-communication between organisations like the police and hospitals and social care workers etc is SO IMPORTANT in protecting victims of abuse. If the hospital who could clearly see multiple signs of abuse had contacted the police to report their concerns instead of just “asking too many questions”, we may have seen a different outcome than this (especially in terms of the welfare checks etc, like they definitely would have known something was up and might have been able to protect Fawn) x

In high school I was literally part of an organization that fought against dating violence. I knew the warning signs. I taught me peers what to look out for. Bernie looks just the opposite of my Ebby. He was a black dog but looked just like Bernie. He panted all the time too for no apparent reason. He loved to lay on top of my love seat just like Bernie does the chair. I still remember the first time the chair moved. I hadn't realized there was a dog there as he blends in so well. I love when he looks up as if he is bored but then gets comfortable and just goes back to sleep. So much like my sweet Ebby used to do. I lost him to an aggressive form of cancer 6 years ago and I miss him terribly. I enjoy watching Bernie as he reminds me so much of Ebby. I love the fact that you usually have at least one of your animals in your videos. I only had the one dog but I had 6 cats. I love listening to your videos and always pray for closure for the families involved. I pray the same for this young girl. It's sad how life can treat the young and carryover onto adulthood. Please people, learn to treasure your family and don't wait until something happens to them to realize what you have lost. I've had 2 brothers and 1 sister pass away. I know what happened to them. It must be awful to have a family member disappear and not know where they are or what happened. Sending prayers for justice for Fawn.

Cases like this always break my heart, because it's always the best people who get caught up in abusive relationships, and it makes it so much worse when there is no support system for them and they kept falling back into it, I just hope fawn can be found

I can't imagine what it must feel like to see your child in an abusive relationship and not being able to do anything about it. I'm glad same-sex abusive relationships are being spoken about as they happen a hell of a lot more than people think, we just don't tend to hear about it because of systematic homophobia.

Yes, it's not spoken about enough. Same-sex domestic abuse is often overlooked because, in certain areas, it's not considered " domestic".....what a messed up and vulnerable justice system we have.

It should be 100% noted, by the way, that how the Pennsylvania State Police and local police acted in this case (the general lack of care and negligence) is normal and common here. If you're the victim of domestic violence or s/a in Pennsylvania, the police aren't interested in helping you. Stating that as someone who has a PFA against my ex, and who watched my mom deal with it in 2000-2002. PA Staties will let d/v victims die.
@XYZ-kb3mm3 жыл бұрын
yep i bet it’s like that in a lot of other states too… this very weird, outdated attitude that domestic abuse should be dealt with privately… when obviously that enables the huge domestic abuse problem we have. makes no sense

This is unbelievable. Granted, I know how unimportant 'cognitively impaired' and socially disadvantaged families are when it comes to the legal system in a lot of counties. This one is pretty unbelievable though. Proud to be an advocate and to stand up for people that can't stand up for themselves. This is sickening.

I’m only 21 minutes in and I’m enraged. The “justice” system straight up does NOT work for people who are at or below the poverty line. This woman was failed so many times.
@zknight44813 жыл бұрын
This part. As much as we talk about how the justice system is a joke for POC, especially black people, we also need to take more time to talk about how the justice system doesn’t work for impoverished people or anyone society sees as “less than” or “undesirable”. People often forget that police work for the ruling class, not the working class.
