I think the reason they are called Chimera is most likely due to the lateral lines in their bodies looking like stiches which could add to the idea of different animal parts.

This little guy LOOKS like the coolest thing I've ever seen, and all the facts about them are super interesting too! It's incredible what nature is capable of creating, this creature looks like something a kid would come up with from their imagination but it really exists. I'm so excited to see all of the other deep sea creatures we'll end up discovering in the rest of my lifetime.

Answered my own question! 🙂 "...these mysterious animals belong to three families even though they are often lumped into one. The Callorhinchidae family is made up of the ploughnose chimaeras, the Chimaeridae family consists of the shortnose chimaeras, and the Rhinochimaeridae family of the longnose chimaeras."

If it's referring to a chimeric organism, then yes it is :) hard K. (There's a type of film equip. that's pronounced differently). But, I'm not sure if this account is from the U.K.? So, maybe pronounced differently in U.K.? :)

I’m already terrified of the ocean, but above all else, I think if I were in a sub and saw this thing down where the sun can’t reach, I’d nope right out of there as fast as possible. Imagine the lights on your sub slowly panning to the side, and suddenly you catch the reflection in their eyes, and that’s the only thing you see down there…
