I think it’s is indeed from the past but Eren is stuck in a time loop. AoT has taken a lot of inspiration from Norse mythology, most specifically Ragnarok which pretty much is a time loop. Gods going through cycles with slightly different details but the events that trigger ragnarok still happen

Been saying this for a while. SPOILERS!!!!! For anybody not caught up in the manga but..... I’ve said what if historia and possible Eren’s baby is Ymir or the parent/family of Ymir or the eldian bloodiline and once the world is down to little of nothing after the rumbling, the story starts off with the Royal eldians ruiling the world. Continuing the loop. The biggest clue was the titles “to you 2000 years from now” and “From you 2000 years ago”. I think Eren and Ymir are cursed to live this cycle until maybe Ymir decides to die instead of running in the tree OR until Eren decides to let his home be destroyed. Shit or until Armin can find a way to break the cycle. Idk but I definitely have had this constant loop theory for a while now

On some versions of the manga translation it is not "see you later eren" ...it's "see you on the other side, eren" and according to the latest manga chapter 126 we know mikasa and the others have formed an alliance with the marleyans and is about to save the world from eren...so I think this dialogue I said when she is about to kill eren.

I really like these theories. There is another theory that says that Falco inherits Eren’s Titans and in the first episode Eren is actually seeing memories from the next Attack Titan holder Falco (or whoever). Just like how Eren Kruger and Grisha both got memories from Eren.

It’s starting to seem like Falco is going to play a lot more into the story than he has. He started off small and we figured he’d diewith zofia and udo eventually but look at him now. A whole ass titan holder, this dude hs had MULTIPLE near death experiences and not where a titan almost got him and he got away I mean this dude got blown up twice, if he wasn’t important isayama would’ve let him die a long time ago. And another part of the theory is how it pans down from the birds in AoT very first scene, and what is falco’s intro panel? Him reaching out to the birds to which he eventually becomes, knowing isayama, this could probably be the case.

I think it's pretty good theory you came up with! I also thought kiyomi had some connections with kruger but you put it together very beautifully. Even though i don't think, it's true but it's still in the realm of possibilities. i think first panel is really more important to the story than showing parallels in attack on titan. Eren saying to mikasa "" when did your hair grow so long '''' was after effect on eren after seeing the future memories or its Implying the idea of eren being stuck in time loop, and living same life over and over again. Hence, the title,, to you 2000 years in the future or something like that! After chapter 121 revelation i also came up with the idea! It's my theory Time is inevitable,, that's what i got from this chapter of aot In attack on titan time flows only in one direction, there isn't any other timeliness in attack on titan because of that there's also no paradoxes. Simply say, everything in attack on Titan is set in stone. It's not like eren changed something in the past, It was included in the past, Eren already saw himself manuplating his own dad, and when he got to that point he just played his role. It means there is only one path in attack on titan and eren is stuck in the loop alone. I realise after reading this ch and After reading 1st ch again and after that dream sequence of eren. Eren wakes up and started crying, And i realise something That eren is the only person, who lives in the loop and he will never be free. It's set in stone, his destiny. Eren will always wake up under that tree, he will always go through all the grim trials and in the end he will free his people and die and restart again. This is a story of a boy who will always keep repeating the same story over and over so that everyone else can be free. That's why grisha said,, sach a terrible thing to happen,, stop eren How can any father see his own son living a life like this right? And it will fit together with the final panel, and the title of 1st chapter To you 2000 in the future. Maybe seeing everyone else free is the freedom eren wants And in the final panel grisha holding eren and saying,, you are free,, In ch 115 eren himself said,, to not being born into this world, there is no better salvation,,, and again people took it in wrong way Eren was talking about himself If he wasn't born, he would have been free from the role, he had to play, over and over again. when he says,,, because i was born into this world,, is also his real feelings,, cuz he also want to born and met those people he love, Like mikasa and armin and his friends, so he will play his role and fight till the end, because he is born into this world. How ironic the person who isn't slave to anything actually is slave to the story and he will never be free. Sad!

Even though eren seems like slave, he believes, he is free. why? ,, Everyone is a slave to something,, when kenny said that, it gave a very negative toon. like everyone is slave to something means they are captive or shackled by something. That They are not free. But ones eren's father said to eren when he asked and during shiganshina arc eren remembered that. ,, when will you show me what's in the basement father,, grisha said,,, perhaps when you realised what's most precious to you. And that phrase interlined with kenny's phrase so well. Grisha was basically saying that when you find something, you really love from bottom of your heart, something most precious to you than instead of making you slave, that something will set you free. And that's the thing very important. No matter how we see it, It doesn't matters i think. What matters, is the question, what freedom means to eren? Many people neglect that fact. What freedom is to eren is the most underrated fact in this story. Eren always says he is free, Why do he think like that? It's simple and in front of our faces,but we never saw it. Two quotes eren always says: ,,i am free,, And ,, because I was born into this world,, So here we have it. Eren believes, he is free because he is born into this world. Because he had people, he loved. and people who loved him. He is free, because he knows, that his cycle has purpose. That he was born for a reason. ,, this world is cruel yet beautiful,, This quote is dedicated to eren, To his existence, Being stuck in this loop for eternity, Living same story over and over again. I think eren keeps going back in time trying to save Armin and mikasa, which would explain eren Kruger mentioning their names, but kept failing to save them, maybe the story starts on his 13th try(hence the page number 13 in chapter one to keep track of the current story line where he might actually save them because he couldn't save mikasa previously, hence the "see you later eren " where they last talked in paths after she died which would explain why he cried when he woke up from his dream and saw her first. That's just my theory

This theory makes sense because in aot S4, falco have seen the future memory of fighting titans while flying with swords, which means that falco might be the key to defeating eren and he might be the next person to inherit the attack titan. This is because the future attack titan inheritor will always see their future memories. Just like eren jeager seeing eren krueger memories. Also falco holding 4 titan at once would be epic Jaw+attack+warhammer+founding 😳

The one who said "see u later eren" was Ymir Fritz the founder, and the title of chapter 1 was "To you 2000 in the future? You can get the hint from the title of chapter 122 and 1. If u reread the chapter 122 you will read what eren tell ymir that "was it you who led me all the way here? You've been waiting for 2000 years...bla bla" not quite accurate but U will know it when u read it....

I still think that it's Mikasa. There's a number 13 at the bottom of that page and one of Mikasa's theme song is "13 winters" by Ishikawa Yui. And I think it's a future memory and in the anime they didn't show it but they replaced it with the that memory of dolls and the red and green flag. I noticed after rewatching some episodes that the teddy bear we see when mikasa and eren returned to shiganshina to open the basement (season 3) looks the same as the teddy bear in eren's dream in episode 1. Also, the white flower symbol on the red and green flag looks like the white flower eren and mikasa saw while they were walking the path towards their old house. This makes me think that they will get their home back in the end because eren once said that they lost their home but he thought "but that's fine. I'll get it back" while looking at Mikasa.

Kruger and Kyomi aren't that relevant to the overall story and I think it's more likely that Eren's seeing a future memory of Mikasa killing him and that's why he's crying when he wakes up. Also Eren makes the comment about Mikasa's hair so I think he was dreaming about her and recognised her. The Kyomi theory is definitely cool, but I think from a storytelling perspective Eren seeing his future death is much more meaningful than seeing a memory of two people he's never met.

This scene is a timereset i don’t think eren is in a loop but in a second attempt to make things right i think what happened is that eren won and the rumbling smacks the world and after that mikasa will talk to him and change his mind in a breaking point he uses his power to send all the events to happen back to himself when he sits under the tree in hope of not making the same mistake again and changing the future with that action Maybe he will unlock this memory before everything is lost and changes the future so the first event will not repeat itself Think about it he has „dreamed“ the entire future but can’t realize it but his subconscious starts to cry as soon as he sees the wall those tears are from the future eren that is happy and sad at the same time that it works to give him a second chance but also having himself go through the same bad events again And btw this whole tree scene resembles the titan path realm a tree with nothing that surrounds him and a girl

I think it is a time loop. At the end of the story Eren will die in the hands of Mikasa, where she has short hair. Than respawns to the beginning of the series. And where he says that stuff about wrapping the scarf around her is about living in this loop forever.

Then he wanted to killed all the titans to revenge for his mother and to free the people from those monsters. "One family returning the favor, across time." If this is actually what happened, I would be: wtf? This is a great theory! Isayama, having two characters named Eren and another two within the same clan (Mikasa and Kyomi)... this give him a lot of possibilities to surprise the fans. Especially since using it on a very important foreshadowing of the series - the first chapter. I can't wait to see how that one (the see you later) would play out. Even if anime is the finished product, one way or another, that part would probably show up on the anime; whether through someone's memory or just plain flashback. I hope that the succeeding chapters will provide more information about that past/future 2000 years fiasco. I have a feeling, there's more to it than what we read. I mean, if the first chapter/episode is about that 2k yrs and it's counterpart was not the final, then maybe, some information were still left out to surprise us all in the end. (Am I even making sense rn? lol, It's probably the fatigue talking haha)

Ok I'll be honest, that was a really good theory. What I still dont understand (and well, if its like you say, it doesnt need to have an answer until we really know what it is) is why do they show it at the start. What I also dont really get about the future theory is that, in the panel, it doesnt seems like the girl is like the older mikasa with short hair, so I'm kinda confused there. But I didnt really read that part of the manga, just what would be the season 4, so correct me if I'm wrong lol. Still, very interesting theory!

Thank you very much my friend I don’t want to give you spoilers, so I’ll answer as best as I can First the reason it is there in the beginning is to (according to my idea) give you a sense that you see the same place later after Mikasa wakes him up, when in fact it could be a moment from outside the walls, or different country, or in short, Not eren yeager but Eren kruger! And the fact they both have the same name is what going on here According to my thory the first panel is Kruger, and then we go to eren yeager and Mikasa About the girl in the panel not looking like Mikasa, that’s exactly my point, becauseI don’t think it’s really Mikasa 😊 You will meet the person I talked about probably in the next episode or the one after that 🤔

Good question, By now I look at Mikasa as one of the most mysterious characters in the story It is clear to me that she has some power we still unaware off, but yes, I am guessing Mikasa had something to do with the events of the story, but I also believe she isn’t even aware of that 🤔
