In 1432 Bertrandon was sent off on an extraordinary journey across the Ottoman Empire. He left behind a detailed book containing his observations on the politics and customs of the places he visited. Strangely though Bertrandon wasn’t a diplomat, and he took an indirect and dangerous route home across the Ottoman territories which raises the question. Was Bertrandon a Medieval secret agent? Welcome to Medieval Madness.

Last July 2023 I was in rehab for Xanax for 3 weeks. (Still clean!!) After the 1st week I got Covid, (no symptoms, just positive test) and I just so happened to be in a facility in *California* so I was completely quarantined for 2 weeks, all alone, being brought trays of food 3 times a day, withdrawing off Benzos-- but I had a TV w/ the KZbin app on it and I binged nearly every single episode you had released up to that point.. So I've got a strong fondness for this channel, and I appreciate the work you do. (also on walk the plank! two weeks is a long time on YT)

Proud of you dawg Xanax is a killer. My buddy was withdrawing off that and other drugs and was put into an involuntary psych program thing. He was going crazy thinking he was in FaceTime with Joe Biden and Donald Trump live on Fox News. Swore up and down that was happening and showed his phone to a nurse who let my friend know they took his phone away when he arrived. Don’t do drugs yall. Much love

Too bad Ian Fleming never wrote a novel about a medieval intelligence agent traversing the Middle East. Would’ve been a great book and/or movie

Now I'm trying to imagine the Johnny Rivers song, Secret Agent Man, played with lutes and pipes as backing music.

Another fascinating video. I have an idea for a video. Where the old countries were, like Flanders, Bergundy, Castile, Aragon and what happened to those countries why they were merged into bigger ones.

Bertrantem was the perfect example of a man who really grabbed at life-squeezing every, last drop from it : Secret Agent; world traveler; best-selling author; husband of the richest heiress in France; gifted a castle & a high military position by the king-having 25 years of life left to enjoy these gifts, and dying at the ripe old age of 60….

It's not as bad as his English pronunciation at times. Worcester becomes Warchester, Ely becomes Ellie, and so forth. He even managed to butcher Pinta (one of Columbus' ships) as Piñata. So at least he's very consistent in his disastrous pronunciation, regardless of language.
