I always found it intriguing that the artwork made by Ken Sugimori and the pixel art were made by different people, and that the pixel art came first. In that vein, a lot of the original ideas for Pokémon were vastly different than what we came to know. Like Mew looking like a fetus; it really was supposed to look more embryo-like originally due to it being an ancient Pokemon ancestor.

Years ago I grabbed a boxed copy of Pocket Monsters Midori on eBay. Always wanted it even as a kid as we had an import seller in the city and I was always curious what this version was despite obviously being in Japanese. It's fun to play through.

The original CD soundtrack release for the game adds reverb to all tracks for some goofy reason. I don't know of any full, official soundtrack releases that omit the reverb, so I had to do a game rip myself a few years back, which takes a while. THANKS A LOT, GAMEFREAK.

Gen 4 and 5 were okay, but I agree with the rest. And I think the fandom are one of the reasons for the franchise's downfall, but that's a long story.

@@Anonymous-oh4xw Gen 4 was great as it expanded on and perfected what Gen 3 started. Black and White was a failed experiment but still an awesome failure -- Only new Pokémon, first region not to be inspired on Japan, heavy story focus (that also questioned the series' own premise), a numbered sequel instead of a third version. That is not to mention B2W2 which, gameplay wise, is the most perfect game in the series (and this comes from a Genwunner). Gens VI, VII and VIII, despite their shortcomings and lacknof challenge in the story mode, are still entertaining and not without their charm. I for one love the designs of XY Pokémon and replacing the Gyms with island trials in Sun and Moon was fun, too. Galar, despite being a clusterf***k of hallways, looked beautiful, and Legends Arceus may be the best modern Pokémon game in how they introduced the (semi)open world concept to the franchise. If anything, modern Pokémon games are like modern albums by classic rockstars (McCartney, Stones, Dylan, U2, The Cure, Foo Fighters, et al): still good, sometimes great, but irrelevant for being past their prime.

green is the version where the creepypasta lavender town syndrome comes from. The only problem is that you can no longer get the original version of this version anywhere because it was a special Japanese version as a beta and not a licensed green one. on all three versions red, green and blue the melody is the same and changed to a lower pitch than the mysterious beta version which has a high beeping abnormal tone.The green licensed Japanese version is actually the blue international version, only many people don't know this and think that the blue one was created after the green version. In principle, they are right, only the international blue version is not the same as the Japanese one, which was issued in green. Anyone who has played all three Japanese versions on Game Boy knows what I'm talking about. For all the fans of creepypasta pokemon, if you are looking for the original green beta version, try in vain to get the rom on the net because it is not available anywhere unless someone else owns this cartridge.

I'd like to hear about Purple versions history as well as a complete list of the differences for green and Red\Blue\Yellow. Maybe a video about all the items never used in older ewer pokemon games? Or perhaps even a video on the evolution\timeline of the glitchs in pokemon (or other games) that people found out much later after the games been out. My favorite glitch being the "walk forward to a trainer off screen and use escape rope or teleport to exploit a memory overflow glitch allowing you to gain access to certain pokemon much earlier or over leveled or even mew depending on the NPC ID and pokemon ID. Great video though. It would also be pretty sweet to see you do a whole series on some old school games with glitches because that was always the talk on the playground or even perhaps just rumors of things that never existed but were highly mentioned (i.e. PikaBlue, Professor Oaks team and the Mew under the truck to just name a few).

Yeah I'm really glad they changed it because my gosh some of the tunes from the original version of the song just too obnoxious. That said thanks to all the rumors and creepypastas about the original version of the lavender Town theme, they're actually exists a custom version of lavender Town based off of the creepypasta where they change up the tones to make it I guess more reminiscent of what people were saying in the creepypasta and actually it sounds surprisingly really cool

Truth to be told, I can barely notice a difference bewteen the Japanese and International mixes for Lavender Town; if anything, it was actually more painful to listen to the international version in this video as it sounds too loud (althoigh I acknowledge the loudness may come from where LD got the songs, not necesarily from the game itself).

Okay, you are a little off. First of all, we did get Pokémon Red and Green (Aka and Midori). But the international versions that we all know and love are not the original Red and Green they are Red and Green versions that are updated with everything that Pokémon Blue (Ao) had fixed thus far. In Japan Pokémon Blue version was the third released game (kinda along the lines like you said). But did you know that Pokémon Blue was given away when people would buy a house or even a car? Pokémon Blue was actually a promo item for a time in Japan (their version of Pokémon Blue, that is). The real version of Pokémon Blue has technically never left Japan, and it doesn't support all 151 Pokémon nor does it copycat the unique roster of Pokémon Green or Red. It is independent of the two first games. Also, Pokémon Yellow was simply originally called Pikachu Special (the fourth Gen 1 Gameboy Pokémon game). We have never actually played the real Pokémon Blue. What we do have outside of Japan is the Pokémon Green international version that Nintendo of America swapped for the blue color since they like red vs. blue better than red vs. green. Woo, I didn't think I would get into this at length, but oh well. If you want to impress me, go get your hands on the real Pokémon Blue (Pocket Monsters Ao).

Japanese Blue is probably more comparable to Crystal or Emerald. Pikachu Edition is often confused as that third edition, but it's one of the only times they released a 4th edition, and the only one that was based on the show. It's Pikachu Edition, not Yellow Version. Yes the box says both, but the cartridge says otherwise.

It was actually something in the middle. Unlike Crystal, Emerald and Platinum which made heavy changes to the story and gameplay, Blue didn't make such changes -- it merely focused on fixing glitches and improving graphics. Also, being released on the same year as the originals didn't match what further 3rd versions did. Yellow, or Pikachu, did introduce such improvements, was released 2 1/2 years after the originals, and has the "3rd version feel" that Crystal, Emerald and Platinum are known for. By todays standards, Blue feels like a free day one patch, whereas Pikachu/Yellow, Crystal, Emerald, and Platinum feel like paid DLC expansions.

Same with the name. It's somewhere in the middle and both Pikachu AND Yellow are correct. The version subtitle has always been part of the official name and so is listed on official (internal and public) documents. Thus, the proper name for the game is "POKÉMON: Special Pikachu Edition - Yellow Version". Therefore, if you say Pokémon Yellow, you're not wrong. Or, if you want to be a perfectionist, calling it Pikachu Edition is also wrong, as it is SPECIAL Pikachu Edition. Edit: nevermind, as I was writing my previous comment, someone else beat me to this detail lol.

8:06 - I prefer the verison of "Lavender Town" in "Pokemon GS" (Gold, Silver and Crystal); any chance of synchronizing the simultanious play of the Red/Blue "Lavender Theme" AND the GS version together, as a stereo song? The Red / Blue version would be percussion, while the GS version would be the main melody.

They only rejected capsule monsters because Digimon already trademarked it. The Raichu thing a funny in hindsight because Raichu did originally evolve. Surprised that wasn’t mentioned. There’s a lot of cut content known now. See Dr Lava and a few other creators videos. Nintendo of America tried to push for a redesign of the characters and Pikachu was mentioned as being a tiger with boobs. Soooo glad the devs said no. Other changes: Jynx was originally black skinned but was made purple for the export because she looked racist.,And the Diglett statue in one house was actually a shrine. Gary’s game version was Green in Japan but Blue elsewhere. And the female trainer who was Green in the Manga was Blue in Japan Missingno is Pokémon that were cut. Things like the original Blastoise pre evo and Squirtle evo and Gorochu who was mentioned before. Please do the glitch videos and also Animal Crossing has interesting stuff going from the Japan N64 to GameCube. That would be a fun video

The two Lavender Town themes are the same here, aside from some added echo effects that would not have been present on the actual Gameboy. Differences that were created by the uploader do not count, and it's misleading to present the altered version as if it were original. As for an earlier version of the Lavender Town theme, that was limited to the beta version of the game.

the trade for a Kadabra was in Japanese Blue, not Green. English Blue uses JP Green’s ingame trades but the dialogue was translated from JP Blue, leading to that mistake
