I played Shenmue 1 to death, probably 90 hours but I never beat it. I have Shenmue 2 for Xbox but I just couldn't get into it

Wasn't it so that this arcade machine could be further upgraded with extra ram, why's that not mentioned here on the video? there was a version with 512 mb of ram, another with 1gb of ram, but if i remember correctly there is also an option for 2 and 4 gb of ram, i could be wrong with this though.

ARCADE TECHNICIAN for 30 yrs here: Had the pleasure of working with many of these systems. One poor design flaw is the bottom main board for video has a fan that dies, but you can never tell when it's dead until the system overheats and dies. If anyone ever buys one, you should definitely check that first, but have fun taking the many layers and screws apart.

It may be possible to use reverse motion sense, a small LED light, a single board computer (e.g. RPi), Linux, and a web power strip such as a DLI WPS Pro to create a reverse motion-sense setup that would use the dlipower module and the scripting feature of iSpy camera software to automatically trigger the poweroff of the arcade system in the event the fan stops moving. If not that then a fan speed controller that produces outputs that can be read into a file, then write a simple program that runs on an SBC looking for RPM values below a safe #, then write a function that calls the dlipower module to power off the cabinet.

@@AxionSmurfhow about a simple temperature sensor soldered to a relay, turning the main power off in case of temperature too high? Can probably find a temperature based relay board a few cm in size to fit in there somewhere?
@AxionSmurf7 ай бұрын
That would work @@frederikjacobs552
@talibong95187 ай бұрын
@@frederikjacobs552 how about an LED in series with the fan, or running parallel linked with a transistor to indicate that the fan is running? But then what if the LED blows? Maybe just two wires you can lick to test if the fan is powered.
@AxionSmurf7 ай бұрын
@@talibong9518 I haven't seen the layers of the box but it sounds like the layered electronics box where the fan is has the fan deep inside of it. And just having a LED isn't going to be enough because someone has to monitor it. I think we can assume nobody is going to be monitoring the cabinet most of the time, and the defense mechanism against critical thermals has to be fully automated to cut power to the machine to prevent damage.

The Chihiro is based upon the Xbox, using the same Pentium III CPU and NVIDIA graphics card. Unlike the Xbox however it uses GD-ROM media instead of DVDs (with some exceptions; see below), has more RAM and an earlier revision chipset which is used in the Xbox debugging unit (MCPX2). Because of the similar hardware, it is in theory relatively easy to port Chihiro games to the Xbox and PC. The GD-ROM board can be configured to store up to 1GB of data from the GD-ROM like with the Triforce. There was also a Satellite Terminal version of the Chihiro. Technical specifications CPU: Intel Pentium III 733MHz (133MHz FSB) - You can upgrade these to Tualatin Pentium chips pushing 1.6 GHZ. Graphics: NVIDIA XChip 200MHz (based on the NVIDIA GeForce 3) with NV2A architecture System Chipset: NVIDIA MCPX2 RAM: 128MB DDR SDRAM at 200MHz - These slots are on certain revisions of the Xbox retail hardware, and are an upgrade path for modders, SK Hynix RAM is used but prone to fail. Polygons: 125M polys/sec If you want to see modded Xbox content I highly suggest checking out Andr0 hear on YT, he really is the Xbox master, or ACE Console Repairs AU, they are doing wonders of that old hardware and the mods have come on leaps and bounds since it launched, the days of XBMC are way over now.

The really should have marketed the Xbox as the Dreamcast 2 in Japan. Microsoft and SEGA had a good thing going together for a while back then.

Back then it wasn't uncommon for Sega and Namco to have several different arcade boards. Usually they shared similar hardware to something like an xbox, ps2, or gamecube so you could port game between consoles and arcades easily. It also made coding games easier. Edit just saw you mentioned the TRIFORCE.

some say that microsoft trashed thousands of already manufactured mcpx chips in order to change the decryption keys, if is true, then they didnt though in selling those chips as chihiro units? the system sold well enough to guarantee no one would resell them as xbox units...
@Abel-Alvarez4 ай бұрын
If that's true, that's more of a reason for me to never buy another Xbox ever again especially with their current controversies & their lack of exclusive titles (a recurring issue they've been having for quite some time).

5:08 I just thought the protagonist of Spirited Away and this Sega arcade board both being named Chihiro was a coincidence, but maybe the arcade board was named after the Ghibli heroine.

Hang in there. I love what you do. I like when you studied Chun Li. That was a fun video that hit my decade well. She was my main back in the SF2 Arcade days…. I miss arcades. I figured out a way to pay a bill dozer game where things were in plastic hockey puck looking things. Something about using the back of the dozer gave you a lot of control so see it at the edges of the rotation of the disc with a bar that would sweep the same time everything. It was just timing…. I was told I can’t play that game anymore after asking if they can refill it

I turned 18, instantly ran off alone even I was able. Hated Sega from the console wars still but I had the money and it was there. And it is still a system I remember fondly. Especially Seaman. It asked if I was alone sometimes and I wasn’t so I said no. It said I don’t seem very happy in my life and etc, have you been faithful to your wife? I said no, she hasn’t been faithful to me. He didn’t understand and after a few times I just said “no” to the question of being faithful and it said “I thought so, I can’t wait to tell everybody” and I didn’t play seaman in front of anybody after that…. He’s going to tell on me!
