MACOATL’s clay models give a lot of personality to the characters through their design that you couldn’t see before due to the limitations of 2d sprite art. My favorite is the fassad clay model cause it looks exactly like i imagined he would when i played Mother 3. That smile is just evil.

Speaking of fan creations being mistaken for official, you know the names for Earthbound's battle themes? (Pokey Means Business, Giygas' Intimidation, Battle Against A(n) _________ Opponent, etc.) Those are all made up by fans too! They aren't on the official MOTHER 2 soundtrack and they've never been featured in Smash, so we've never had official names for the battle themes. Note that this isn't the case for Mother 3, since that game had a sound test.

I don't think mother 3 wouldn't have gotten sgi models even if It was released outside of a few minor stuff. Considering how hellish the development of the game was, it probably would've used in game models to represent the characters just like spaceworld 1999.

thought I'd be going into this not learning anything new-- but I actually learned people thought these were official! maybe I'm a *bit* more obsessed than I thought... edit: just realized that sounded passive aggressive. I didn't mean "these don't look official", I meant "I thought EVERYBODY was as neurotic as I was about the efforts around the fan translation that they knew who did the clay models". I knew that the Mother 3 models were fan made, but I had no idea that there were the "action pose" ones made as well! I actually think I prefer the original design for Lucas and Claus rather than Smash's designs for them. I've always thought Smash's designs looked a bit unusual and the proportions were very bizarre, but the clay models are very pleasing to look at.
