Those hipsters on the boat were looking at you with disdain... You should have asked them if they had heard of a little website called KZbin and then turned back around before they could answer.

My hubby and I went to the Statue of Liberty 🗽 in the 1980s. We got to go all the way up. It was so neat. People used to be able to go up the torch arm but that was closed even back then . Great video brings back great memories. Thanks Jacob!!!

The original statue that was gifted was much larger than the one we have. They lost parts of it at sea due to weather. (The French)They then constructed a smaller one. (Which is what we got.)

While u were ferrying to the Statue of Liberty in NYC, we were ferrying from the East Bay to Pier 3 in San Francisco, where Hornblower Yachts berth. I won a pair of tix for a 2 hr long "Alive After Five" happy hour cruise. Following this mini-cruise, we ferried back home to the East Bay. A fun day, all in all. So many things like that we overlook here - being caught up in the day-to-day, we're hesitant to spend the $ as needs must come 1st, so it was nice to get out & play tourist for a bit. Cool museum. Maybe next time u visit they'll be open. Keep up the good work, CB! Adios.

That was originally part of the idea when they did a major restoration several years ago, but initial surveys showed that the oxidization penetrated so deep that a lot of sections would become paper thin if it was removed, so instead they chemically stabilized it in place. It will be green forever now.
@RhettyforHistory
@RhettyforHistory 6 жыл бұрын

Hi Jacob, Such a shame that little museum was closed, what happened on the boat when everyone screamed ???. The green color is copper so the staue must be made of more than one metal, it's a very iconic statue and beautiful though. Thank you, sleep well. x
@MrJest2
@MrJest2 6 жыл бұрын
The skin is copper; the frame is steel. Between just sea air and the electrolysis, the oxidization is not only inevitable but by now would be damaging to clean off, so it stays green even after the restoration they did several years ago. I think the screaming was just from the boat bumping into the dock; people not near windows didn't know when they were going to hit so were startled. Smaller ferries like this can often smack fairly hard against the pier when docking. It's not dangerous - there is padding on the pier and fenders on the boat - but if you aren't ready for it, you might get startled pretty good.
@SueGirling68

Thank you so much for the very interesting info on the statue, awesome. Thanks also for the update on the boat, I thought it might be the case that it bumped but wasn't sure. Thank you. x

@@random_vlogger4346 Back when The Statue of liberty was built, a man from a newspaper took out a advertisement. The advertisement stated that if you give a penny, your name would be written in the newspaper. All that money went to fund the statue. At that time having your name written in a local newspaper was like having a celebrity on social media follow/interact with you. It was a honor. You can see the newspapers today.
