We already have an update to this mystery! There have been a few comments that recall seeing an upload from 2009, with one claim specifying that it was titled "Pikmin - Cheer Up". Unsure of how true this was, I did a little digging and found evidence of its existence from a Facebook post in 2010- imgur.com/Im1Ocsu However, while the video and channel are completely gone we can see from the preview window that this was NOT the original upload or source. I believe what we're looking for is from 2008 or earlier, which still puts it closer in relevance to the Chinese short as I speculated in the video. The search continues!

This is a fan animation. That comment saying it was deleted/privated is correct it used to be in my liked videos on my old youtube but when I went to check it its since been deleted. It came out sometime around 2008-2010 judging from the other videos in my likes and atleast that's when I remember seeing it. It used to come up if you searched for general nintendo things it's probably why you vaguely remember it. It's been re uploaded many times now so it's hard to tell who originally made it unless they come forward but I am 100% sure this is a fan animation from old youtube. A good bet would be to look around the old new grounds community like people here have said as there was alot of nintendo love there around 2008 from brawl hype which sounds right for the time frame of when I remember seeing this originally. My guess is it is somehow related to smash brothers hype also pikmin 2 wasn't terribly old back then it was the most recent game at the time and people tended to like the yellow pikmin and olimar more than the other pikmin and Louie explaining the yellow pikmin being used for the thumbnail on reuploads. I think the original video used the image of olimar sitting with the pikmin as the thumbnail. I also remember people pestering the creator in the comments to make more that may be why they disappeared similar to the people who did the fan ed edd and eddy show bro show. Finding who made this will be very difficult unless they come forward with proof cause this video is so old it's back when gamer from Mars was a little kid and youtube still used the five stars system lmao

What I'm guessing is that a Japanese fan, or some other fan around that part of Asia, made the fan animation. Then it may have gotten reposted a lot with people speculating on it. I think think maybe the original creator saw that it was being reposted a lot and took it down. It sounds counter productive but a lot of artists in Japan and similar areas take down their art when it's reposted a lot rather than leaving it up. I'm not sure why, I just know it's something they do, but I'd guess it's what's making tracking it down so hard.
@reverseshin4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it is hard to track down, I’m currently trying to find the origins
@starnight88194 жыл бұрын

@OM19_MO794 жыл бұрын
The so-called "anime-style" is more likely to be used outside Japan than inside by fan and indie animators. A lot of amateur animators in Japan actually tend to distance themselves from the comercial "anime" tropes. That's actually the major giveaway that this wasn't done in Japan, not even in Asia (though Korea could still be its place of origin).
@blackbearcj58194 жыл бұрын
@Phineas Facing Forward Yeah, I do the same, while making sure I keep the source/name in the files so I don't forget who made it, even if it's just for my personal use, for cases such as this. I'm not sure why they're quick delete, I've seen it not just in Japan, but a little in Vietnamese and Korean artists too, but yeah, even when it isn't stolen, stuff disappears as soon as it's posted sometimes.
@blackbearcj58194 жыл бұрын
@@OM19_MO79 Well that's why it's a guess. And I've seen Korean and Vietnamese artists get quick to delete when their art is reposted to, as opposed to the rest of the world, though maybe not as much as Japan. And while I don't know how that true that is because I don't know much about specifically the animation scene in Japan, I do know there are still are plenty of fan animations out of Japan that do use the style. And take this with a shaker of salt because the evidence is 1. Anecdotal 2. it could have been a reupload, but I do believe the place I even saw this video back in the day was NicoNico, before the one mentioned in the video, because a lot of neat fan animations were only posted there at the time. I know anyone could have uploaded it there, but not a lot of people who weren't Japanese were around the time I remember. So I agree we can't be sure and it may even point more to it not being Japanese, we also can't rule it out, and I wanted to offer some reasoning as to the original possibly disappearing if it was Japan made.
@spacecometeer4 жыл бұрын
I remember seeing this animation back in 2012 when I was majorly into Pikmin.... I feel like the upload I saw was either the one you showed from 2010, or possibly one from 2009. Sadly, I have really bad memory so I can’t remember more than that, though I was always sure it was a fan animation- to be honest, I’m surprised people thought it was a pilot considering that fan animations for stuff like this were often of similar quality (aka minimal animation because... animation is hard as heck to do, and it takes ages to do dramatic motion shots). Thanks for covering this topic though, it was super nostalgic to see! If you have any questions for whatever reason, let me know and I can try my best to answer them as a Pikmin fan who scavenged the web for any bit of Pikmin content back then, haha!
@spacecometeer4 жыл бұрын
Actually, to add onto this, it’s possible that this particular animation was released by the artist around the same time the wii ports of the pikmin games were released, considering how artists often try to release content that’s sort of relevant to the time. However, do note that this is complete speculation on my part.
@Viper505repiV14 жыл бұрын
You brought up that that style was popular in the late 00's. Did you try Newgrounds to see if it could have possibly come from there? This sort of stuff gets uploaded all the time on there and people have a habit of reuploading flash content from Newgrounds onto KZbin and other sites. Especially back in the day.
@PIKMINROCK14 жыл бұрын
Yeah. I was thinking there or on a Deviant Art-like site. The quality is very clearly fanmade though it resembles early 2000s anime likely because it uses flash for a somewhat clean and flat look. That Pikmin walkcycle is clearly not something that would be in official animation though

@@LSuperSonicQ was looking through uploads on there and I suddenly remembered something. Back when Nintendo were going absolutely ballistic copyright striking damn near anything Nintendo related on KZbin, Nintendo were going to go after Newgrounds because so much stuff uploaded on there included characters owned by them. Speaking of fake Nintendo anime, I remember a long time ago during I would say around when the Pokemon Gen II remakes were being speculated. I saw this KZbin video of a sort of "promo" for a Gold/Silver anime which was obviously fake. It had May in her Emerald outfit, Harley(May's rival from the actual anime), and this girl in a red top hat who was in an episode of the Hoenn anime that featured Chatot. Also the Johto starters were there as well. It had some song completely unrelated to Pokemon which I can't find for the life of me. I wonder if the comments on the Japanese version were disabled from it just being a Japanese upload (I've noticed a lot of Japanese companies disable the comments on videos aimed at a Japanese audience, I don't know if regular citizens also commonly do this or not) or if it's because of COPPA marking it as for kids. That's really irritating. I understand stuff like toddler and kindergarten videos having no comments but it's just irritating when it comes to stuff all ages care about. Then of course there's times when KZbin's bot misidentifies PG-13 or even R rated animations as kids stuff, I've seen several unofficial Robot Chicken and anime re-uploads that aren't kid friendly get tagged as for kids so now kids will have inappropriate things being recommended to them and the proper audience can't even comment on them now.

As an animator, I can say that this definitely looks like a fan animation to me. It does not quite have the same quality that would be produced by a studio. Also there was a subtitle written Red saying: "We are Angry Birds" (which I think that's what was written.) I didn't found any other videos, nor images. Here's a doozy, you should do the kenya song by filthy frank. Been going down for as long as I can remember, and I tried myself to look for the mysterious song with no avail. You seem pretty good and you should give it a try.

Hey LsupersonicQ When will u make your next video?
@Moosh_4 жыл бұрын
I feel the quality could be all the re-uploads. KZbin makes the videos lower quality then they are when you upload the videos so if you keep uploading the same video over and over from downloads of the video it will become low quality so I think this is why it’s low quality
@plus64814 жыл бұрын
Comments are probably off because it's a cartoon, so youtube flagged it as "for kids".

Hey I was wondering if you could do a video on the unfinished/missing episodes of Ed Edd n Eddy? One was called "Special Ed" and the other two were called "Luck be an Ed Tonight" and I think "A Room with an Ed".

This s something I didn't expect either, but I don't play video games so this is new to me. Though is it me or does the 3 Pikmin in that mysterious footage remind me of the Teletubbies?

There is this one cartoon that Ant Blades did animation for called Bull and Red. I remember the show very, very vaguely as a kid. I found the end of the credits on a Nick Japan Shutdown that is real. The production studio behind it seems to be Prism Entertainment, and has no episodes or art of it online. It's truly a mystery of what this cartoon is. Can you make a video discussing the topic? Maybe email Ant Blades first.

Hey, so I dont know if this is really worth talking about or big but recently I was playing mario sports mix and started looking for guides on how to unlock everything. I realized that alot of guides said you could unlock rosalina by having everything else unlocked and beating every minigame in a specific order. I havent tried unlocking it yet but that's because I dont want my time to be wasted.

@Schwarzorn4 жыл бұрын
Lol, there are SO many more than that if you want to count games from any company. But the topic at hand was games from Nintendo specifically. They had a couple for Super Mario, one for Kirby, one for F-Zero, one for Fire Emblem, one for Animal Crossing, and many for Pocket Monsters. Plus a ton more from outside Japan.

while im sure the point now is to find when and where this came from even if it is more than likely a fan animation, i will say that ive seen this type of slightly off model art style and choppy panning effect before. im more than sure this is a fan animation from China. i recall some things like these circulated youtube around 2009 maybe.

I saw this short a couple years ago around 2012-2013 ish somewhere on the internet and just forgot about it, I do know it wasn’t KZbin and all this did was confuse me even more. Where on earth did I watch it?
@Stibly2 жыл бұрын
This animation definitely feels fanmade. With enough practice, anyone can emulate an anime animation style, especially seeing as a lot of anime doesn't have much movement and a very distinct style. Besides, to me at least it doesn't feel like something they'd use to promote the game..

This part is separate but I also remember a 3d pikmin animation by the name of Pikmin end of day or something like that, its also been deleted but I seen a different video with a clip of it in it. Hey, I have no source because it appears to be deleted, but I saw this around 2012 and can confirm the original uploader being a fan. It is a fan animation. However I cannot find any indication on who made it.
