Fun fact: The "I am so very tired" log actually appears in game in Pikmin 4 as an Easter egg of sort, and the text is also completely red instead of the normal black color. It is by far the creepiest log in Pikmin 4 lol.

I thought brown (つち/土) was more like dirt or soil. And tan (き/木) can mean wood or tree. In this context it could be either.

Also, though this text *does* get used in the game, Olimar has a series of 27 logs that only appear if a player continuously goes to the first level, pauses, then presses "Go to Sunset", so most players are likely unaware that they exist. I won't include all of them, but some noteworthy ones include him mentioning things like "If only I could be a Pikmin... NO!!! I must not think such thoughts!" referencing the game's bad ending, as well as the short final entry from this list that simply says: "I don't have much to write today... When I inspected the Onion's legs, I saw that they were covered by tiny little hairs. It was kind of disturbing."

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the Ramune bottles probably had a function similar to how they appear in the Pikmin Short Movies. I would assume, that they were meant to be blown up with a bomb-rock in order to collect the marble inside which would serve as an optional collectible. Not necessary for completion, but Olimar would probably mention how he'd give it to his son/daughter as a souvenir. Miyamoto has a history of reusing seemingly completely forgotten ideas, and he worked on both Pikmin 1, and the Pikmin shorts.

It's also possible that if not the Marble, the bottle cap could have doubled as an optional collectable, as that's what he brought back in the opening cutscene to Pikmin 2, (albeit a different bottle cap type obviously.)

That moon texture was probably an early version of the time, meaning at some point you would be able to explore at night, thus showing the texture instead of a sun. My guess was it never came into the final game since you end the day at the evening of the game, or dusk Usuba was probably gonna be a miniboss or a regular boss at some point, hence why it would spawn smoky proggs and have so much health

The reason Mario is in the files, is probably the fact at one of nintendos shows, they tried to show the capability of the gamecube. Which in that presentation they showed a million Mario’s, and that eventually sprouted in to Pikmin!

All Pikmin were originally planned to carry Bomb Rocks, but near the end of development, the Devs realized that the yellow bois needed a bit of a buff, making them the only ones to carry the object

the key/door mechanic was probably part of a puzzle that got removed. the creator said he wanted the game to feel more like a world than a game and remkved most of the puzzles

Pikmin 3 did have Reds and Blues able to use Bomb Rocks, so maybe the developers decided to use that cut content. Yellows were the least used in 1, then the second most valuable type behind Purples in 2, and back to least used in 3 due to electrical hazards no longer being instakil

with those early stage, it kinda makes me want to make a pikmin mod with the same gameplay, same parts to get, but with new (as in original + new variants of currently existing) enemies and environments to explore. unfortunately for me tho... i only know modeling, so the enemies and their a.i.s will need to be left up to someone else.

The electricity immunity for yellow pikmin was actually supposed to be in this game in exchange for all pikmin being able to use bomb rocks, which is why those textures for other pikmin using bomb rocks are in the game
