When overmatched in skill it's time to close the gap. If a man is willing to stand back and pick you apart which is exceedingly rare your ever gonna cross a man that has training unprovoked. At best he is going to be a street fighter. Street fighters telegraph everything. Everything is out in the open. Then they will realize they are overmatched so they shoot. Or more often they will grapple you shirts clothes etc. Elbows and knees. Thai clinch hurts just being grabbed. Thanks for the lesson Joel! Much love my brother

Great insights, Guro Joel! It's Smart to train in all ranges but especially up close for self-defense as you pointed out, most attacks happen at close range! Good Content as always!

I really think that Panantukan is underutilized by the MMA community. You don't see the higher iq close quarters as much as you should. I think ONE is moving in that direction and you will see a dominance coming from south east Asia in the lower weight divisions. If you took a high level FMA practitioner who is particularly good at Panantukan and brought him up to the level of jiu-jitsu /sambo/ judo and Thai for the leg strikes. You would have a monster in the cage. Also deception is almost nil.
