People digging up their front garden to make a drive, taken up their rear garden for that extra bit of room the fake grass. The new car parks. I think that is a part of the problem with flooding.

Those houses have probably been given planning permission and built on an area that normally floods, a floodplain.

All ways remember every time you build a house or a carpark , a road ,landscape a area, change the course of rivers and fill in ditches to enable you to do all of above ,you increase the risk of flooding as it creates instant run off ,,Rain falls on earth and a large percentage of it is adsorbed or held back and it takes it so much longer to run off and into ditches and then on to wards the river .. But your house, your road into that new estate have been hard surfaced and so its INSTANT run of and that causes a lot of all the floods we see now ,, bear in mind we also have changing weather patterns giving more rain so this also creates bottlenecks and floods .. All moors when managed properly actually help to hold some of that excess water back and allowing a slow release and thereby averting flooding around them .. Even I can see this on the lowlands of Essex were its predominantly arable farming and over the last 60 years or since the war larger farms being more efficient have dug out deep and wide dykes/ditches so their land drains set below the surface can run unimpeded into the ditch and then get moved away very fast whereas on our permanent pasture ,not drained with very small ditches if any at all ,,hold the water far far longer than the arable , so less flooding and a bi product is also much better for all wildlife ..

Very good informative points. However I truly believe that the latest floods that covered many areas of London are due to the northern England/ Scottish grouse moors 😁😂😂 I wonder who we can blame for the recent floods in Japan and China, I’m sure people have their own views, but surely can’t blame the shooting industry 🧐🧐🤪

It is professional Game keepers and syndicates who are correctly managing the wildlife in UK and they are opposed by the TV presenters and activists who have a skewed view of the work that goes into managing the countryside. Having lived and worked all over Europe in the past 30 years, it is clear to me that UK has the best countryside management, with more songbirds and visible wildlife than any other country in Europe. That is due to the efforts of Farmers , Game keepers and syndicates who are dedicated to conservation. Activists and misguided TV personalities are only damaging the countryside, as we have seen recently, with their misguided interference in the countryside and in their arrogance, not confined only to their own country. Well done to Farmers , Gamekeepers and Conservationists , the more we learn the more the activists look silly.

Believe that if it makes you feel better but it’s clearly not true- managed grouse moorland is a bleak and desolate landscape devoid of any biodiversity. The landowners and gamekeepers care only care about money and tradition- conservation doesn’t even come into it

One thing i'll add to it is this; Yes managed fells are beautiful to look at all year round whilst having an immense diversity of species but leave that same area to go wild and the number of species across the board drops dramatically year on year until you have nothing but a forest of wild overgrown heather that supports nothing.
