There are armed Turkish guards 24 hours a day held across the bridge from Nachivan. Nachivan and Turkey have a bridge linked together. In 1993, Armenia did start entering Nachivan, butTurkey threatened a full scale land and air invasion against Armenia just like they did a full scale invasion on Cyprus. I don't really know why Armenia got scared, but they should have doneit anyways. Iran did show some restraint as well by doing military maneuvers across the river that is between Nachivan and Iran. I guess all I can is that it was better to be safe than sorry because there's no guarantee that Russia would have been at Armenia's aid, and there's no way of knowing if Iran would be involved in the war or not. Definitely Turkey and Russia would. This would have probably turned into a third world war because if Russia is fighting against a NATO ally, than all of NATO would come after Russia and possibly Armenia. It's really hard to say what would have really happened if Armenia ignored Turkey's threats and gone with the full scale invasion of Nachivan just like they did on Karabakh.
