The name Cleopatra or Cleo has become popular in the Black American community because of the mistaken belief that she was of Black African descent. In fact, she was the last of the Greek Ptolemaic dynasty; Alexander the Great conquered Egypt and many other lands, but he died young in Babylon while celebrating his victories (either poisoned by one of his associates, or of malaria), leaving no heirs. His generals that were keeping order in his various lands declared themselves kings and, after fighting one another, agreed to divide the empire between them. While some of the post-Alexandrian kings imposed Hellenic culture on their conquered lands (most notably Antiochus IV, of infamy in the Hanukkah story), Ptolemy I and his descendants presented an Egyptian public face, calling themselves Pharaohs, dressing like Egyptian royalty, and publicly worshiping Egyptian deities, in private they were GREEK; they spoke Greek (to their Roman visitors as well), and they married within their ALL GREEK royal family. Some of them even married their SISTERS! And Cleopatra VI Ptolemy was no exception; she married two Romans and had children by both. There is a new Cleopatra movie being made today, and rumors are that they cast Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), an Israeli Jew, in the role.

When you look into the origin of colour names it all points to humans starting with just a name for black and white or dark and light then slowly adding colours in a fairly uniform way. So it's not surprising that yellow and green come from the same root back when. You should totally do a video on colour names with this in mind :)

Not to mention people constantly calling me Chloe because they either just did so accidentally or simply couldn't be bothered to learn it correctly. One of the things I like abt MS Worst is the ease of adding diacritical marks. For example, in MS Word, to type the word fiancée, you would do the following: HOld down CTRL Key, then type the accent you wanted, in this case the apostrophe ', then the letter e. And you'd get é. .

Hey, small thing, but there’s a mistake in dating when Napoleon’s expedition/invasion happened. While the French Revolution is traditionally marked as starting in 1789, Napoleon’s Egyptian expedition didn’t occur until 1798. Napoleon was a little known minor Corsican noble in 1789.

Patrick mentioned that we shouldn't use slaves to build things "like the Egyptians" but that's a myth. The Egyptians did not use slave labor to build anything. They had massive teams of professional builders who were free people.
@dstinnettmusic2 жыл бұрын
This is an overcorrection. Egypt was a Bronze Age empire, so of course they had slaves, just not to build monuments,
@alexreid11732 жыл бұрын
Ancient Egyptians did have slaves at certain points, but you’re correct that they weren’t used to build the pyramids or anything.
@IgabodDobagi2 жыл бұрын
@@dstinnettmusic I never said they didn't have slaves at all. I said they "did not use slave labor to build anything." They certainly had slaves, but slaves were unskilled laborers. Building the pyramids or monuments or even simple stone buildings requires skilled artisans who train for their entire lives.
@KasumiRINA2 жыл бұрын
They did use slave labor, and slavery was a thing in Egypt, though not as widespread as in Greece or Rome. They didn't build pyramids though, it was too good of a job with benefits, insurance and healthcare so was done by pro worker "gangs", whose autographs we still can see on the stones.

😂 Name your kid Tutankhamun (or as autocorrect suggests, Tutankhamen) and call them Tutie for short. Please don’t actually do that.
@CharlesStearman2 жыл бұрын
According to Wikipedia, Tutankhamun is the correct spelling but Tutankhamen is how it should be pronounced. He was originally named Tutankhaten (after Aten the sun-disk, which was made the centre of Egyptian religion by his father Akhenaten) but changed it to Tutankhamun on his succession when Egypt's former chief god Amun became dominant again.
@RavenFilms2 жыл бұрын
@@CharlesStearman I knew of the name change, but not of the spelling, though, being autocorrect I assumed it was wrong. Thanks for the mini history lesson.
@KasumiRINA2 жыл бұрын
Even Tutankhamun wasn't named Tutankhamun as a kid, he was TutankhATEN, but as they canceled (literally, their city Amarna was demolished and statues dismembered) the Akhenaten's religion, they renamed the kid in honor of another sun deity. That's like if you named your kid KardashiElon and now after Musk's crap takes on Ukraine, renamed the lil rascal to KardashiCher or something.
