This one has been kicking around my head for a while. I read that the name Kayleigh was invented by the singer Fish, of Marillion fame. Now, the name Cayley as a surname has been around a long time (19th century English mathematian), the way Fish spelled it is his invention. Truth? There are so many with that name now. I just knew it from the Marillion song!

A stretch, but I wondered if it was a variant of the male (anglophone female) ‘Carol’. Also, don’t forget Cheryl Ladd, and this reference from The Golden Girls: Dorothy: ‘Blanche, what do we look like? Charlie’s Angels?’ Blanche: ‘ I’ve been told I bear a striking resemblance to Miss Cheryl Ladd. Although my bosoms are perkier.’ Dorothy: ‘Not even if you were hanging upside-down on a trapeze!”

The name "Timmy" or "Timmie" is probably spoken 100,000 time a day in Canada. It is the affectionate name for Tim Hortons, the beloved national chain that sells coffee, donuts, breakfasts, soups, and sandwiches in over 5,000 stores across the country. It is usually just called "Timmie's / Timmy's" as in "I stopped by Timmie's and picked up a double double" or "Christ, the lineup at Timmie's was huge, but I just had to get that Maple Dip!"

Looking at family history websites there certainly isn't much in the way of Cheryls before 1900. I did find a record of a Cheryl Boaglun buried on 20 Jan 1680 in Selworthy, Somerset, England on the Family Search website, but they don't have an image available online for this record. Family Search are usually pretty good with their transcriptions of historical records, but the old records can be really difficult to read. (While their original records are pretty good, I would be sceptical about any family trees on Family Search).

I think Cheryl might fit me actually. I'm trans and have been looking for a name that really fits me for years. But something always ends up feeling off about it. But a name that came out of basically nowhere and seems to roughly mean "anonymous" or "mysterious". That might fit me better than the ones I've been trying from the popular lists.

My friend when I was growing up had a sister named Cheryl, and I did relate to her, sometimes more than my friend herself (the sister was far older, just as I was by far older than all my siblings. And we both got into wicca around the same time when my friend was getting really into the baptist church despite them rejecting her for being bi and that really upsetting her). And also that character on Archer. Kinda relatable in that she used to change her name all the time, but kinda the only relatable thing about her as far as I remember.
