This one has been kicking around my head for a while. I read that the name Kayleigh was invented by the singer Fish, of Marillion fame. Now, the name Cayley as a surname has been around a long time (19th century English mathematian), the way Fish spelled it is his invention. Truth? There are so many with that name now. Looking at family history websites there certainly isn't much in the way of Cheryls before 1900. I did find a record of a Cheryl Boaglun buried on 20 Jan 1680 in Selworthy, Somerset, England on the Family Search website, but they don't have an image available online for this record. Family Search are usually pretty good with their transcriptions of historical records, but the old records can be really difficult to read. (While their original records are pretty good, I would be sceptical about any family trees on Family Search).
