Ironical lecture. Till the point there is an "I" and there is a "want", where is the question of "Moksha" . It is the liberation from the "I', not the liberation of "I". Won't get it if you "seek" it.

Intense desire for mokSha (mumukShutva) is actually a pre-requisite for mokSha. You absolutely must desire mokSha intensely and actively seek it. That is the entire point of an advaitic sAdhanA. ८ ॥ Therefore the man of learning should strive his best for Liberation, having renounced his desire for pleasures from external objects, duly approaching a good and generous preceptor, and fixing his mind on the truth inculcated by him. अहंकारादिदेहान्तान् बन्धानज्ञानकल्पितान् । स्वस्वरूपावबोधेन मोक्तुमिच्छा मुमुक्षुता ॥ Mumukṣutā or yearning for Freedom is the desire to free oneself, by realising one’s true nature, from all bondages from that of egoism to that of the body - bondages superimposed by Ignorance.

@@openenquiry "Desire" is the root cause of all misery. And that includes the "desire" to "attain moksha". It solidifies the "I" even more. "I" do not "want / desire" anything, because "I' am "everything". na cha sangatham naiva muktir na meyaha.

@@pritisharma9955 Sorry, but that is Buddhism, not Hinduism. In Hinduism, desire is allowed and even celebrated. You can desire wealth, power, and knowledge, and you can even conduct rituals that will fetch you these. kAma is literally one of the puruShArthas - dharma, artha, kAma, mokSha. The vedic yajnas were conducted by people who desired power, progeny and prosperity. Hindus pray to Saraswati, Lakshmi, and Durga for knowledge, wealth, and power. Why are these things done if desire is bad? Have you read or heard the chamakam from the vedas? It's literally a long list of things that the chanter desires to acquire. The vedas are full of invocations to the devatas to grant the yajamAna various things. I also just quoted you Shankaracharya's vivekachdamani which says that the desire for mokSha is a hard pre-requisite for mokSha. This desire-phobia you're mentioning is extremely toxic and anti-life. There is a case to be made for excessive and unhealthy desires, but desires in themselves are not bad. They are part and parcel of a healthy, virile, happy human life. And more importantly, that are very central to a Hindu way of life.

@@openenquiry Well. Best of luck in your endeavour of trying to "attain" moksha.

@@pritisharma9955 Who said that I am trying to attain mokSha? I am not a mumukShu - I have no use for moksha. It's not a goal that appeals to me at all. I find the world fascinating, and would like to learn more about it. I would like to help the people around me a little. Moksha is completely useless in all of this.
