Herbivore, omnivore, carnivore, insectivore are all dietary preferences or dietary requirements. They stem from biology. Predator and prey are subjective relationship dynamics highly dependent on viewpoint. Cows are herbivoristic predators to grass for example. Dietary preference has no bearing on moral paradigms.

So are bears. Eye placement is a dead give away, particularly on mammals: prey animals tend to have eyes on the side, broadening their overall sight lines. Predators usually have eyes faced forward to better focus on a target.

@@silas6328 that's not a hard and fast rule tho. There are predatory species that have wide placed eyes. There are also herbivores that have forward facing eyes.

The images don’t actually match the descriptions of the aliens at all though. It’s probably just some picture series they found. Saying that, I do still want to hear the story of the catstronaut invasion and how they were defeated by humans picking them up and snuggling them. 😂

@@ryanmcewen415 if you look around on you tube with the AI voices from 11labs, a lot of channels are using them, me as well on free version cause they sound so good and real, and people often wonder if it's a real narration, check my About page on the channel main screen for the description, I disclose all voices used are AI , but cost heaps of credits to use for long stories. And it's a real story on Reddit by space paladin look it up.

Maybe it's just my human bias, but I find it inconceivable that any intelegent species wasn't shaped in a resource limited world where those that survive find a balance in competition and cooperation, and those things shaping generations after generations. And to truly expand on their home world to billions so as to advance their technology the species must be able to eat a variety things. A galixy of intelegent tecnologival life forms that didn't have roots in omnivorism is not very relatable.

"Omnivore" and "predator" are not mutually exclusive. We do hunt (deer, rabbits, fish, whatever). That makes us predators and those animals our prey. We do eat both meat and plants (and mushrooms). That makes us omnivores. We eat whatever is most easily accessible to us at any given time. That makes us opportunists. So we are opportunistic, predatory omnivores.

​@@Nico6thwell yeah, but given the food convenience of modern technology... 90% of our population do not hunt for their food and have been domesticated by society to the point that hunting is just a niche hobby. Even the meat that we eat we never hunted at all. Livestock yeah, but our interactions with very sentient lifeforms like whales and elephants shows that we treat them with more care the more we know how close they are to our sapience. Yes we have rogue, evil elements in humanity that provide the worst version of ourselves, but we also have animal whisperers, conservationists, etc.

@@jayzenstyleTake away the convenience of having as much food as we want all the time for a month or two and you will see how much of the predator is still left. We made it more comfortable for us, as would any predator who has the option to do so. That doesn't mean the predator part is gone. Really hungry people eat cats and dogs and pet rabbits and whatever else they can get their hands on, even other humans under extreme circumstances.

Are you sure? Domesticated urban humans rarely hunt for their food. They cannot be considered predatory, at least 90% of us. We live very sedentary lives in the modern day so I highly doubt we are predatory in a behavioral sense. Our technology made it very easy to sustain ourselves without honing our predatory instincts.

7/10 This seems to be an interesting scenario for first contact, with us finding them. Two notes, predator does not mean pure carnivor. We are omnivores. Also Cats as a prey species? I would hate to meet their predators, considering cats are predators and not prey. But that is an issue with the chosen images that do not match the alien descriptions as having eyes on the sides of their heads. I do not have much context for this genre, only having seen maybe 50 short videos. Less than 20 hours for sure. I don't know what HFY means. But I understand that humans are typically depicted as young interstellar underdogs that punch above their weight, often being superior in war tactics, and looked down upon by our seniors. We may be looked down upon for our weakness, technology, no FTL (which is usually glossed over for explaining how we get anywhere), and/or our violent nature.
