My take on random OP players has always been that some guys basically translate better to simulated basketball experiences versus what their capabilities in the NBA suggest. All these guys usually have a few things in common: Fast, long wingspans, good dunkers, good 3-point shooters. You expect those attributes from superstar players, but not from the guys you mentioned (and a few others.)

Not sure when the iceberg was created, but the 2K24 MyTEAM Kobe Bryant 100 ovr Reward controversy. If you don’t know 2K advertised that if you collected 1,000 players or some big number, and if you did it you would get a 100 ovr Kobe. 2 days before it was possible they announced that it would change to a pick two 100 overall option pack. They Magee announced this officially and only said it on there discord. The game changed it hours before you could revive all the players. Some had done it due Kobe tragic death, and they were PISSED that it was taken away. Most people think that Kobe’s daughter didn’t want him to be locked behind a massive paywall and made 2K change it.

I'm 98 percent sure 2K lost the rights to Kobe. He hasn't gotten a single 99 ovr card, his last card was like a 97.

Older 2ks were sooo much better, I know a lot of people say that but it’s soo true, I liked when they used to experiment and try new things, like for example, 2k16 were u were able to talk to ur controller and make calls or little things like shit talking when players are shooting free throws in 2k21. Features like those were soo fun and I never understood why they removed them or just stopped trying 🤦🏾‍♂️

absolute absurd that paid games needed to have a battle pass/season pass. It used to be a thing for f2p games or old games that turned f2p to monetize by offering optional new content. Now every game need to have a season/battle pass for you to progress. Even more absurd that NBA2k has a battle/season pass. BUYING THE GAME WAS THE SEASON PASS.

Edit: i didnt realize 2k12 ps2 was on here lol. Some of my deep lore: the nba2k15/16 last gen full court fade, allowed you to press Y/Triangle and green fadeaway 3s as deep as you wanted due to a broken animation, also the really bad last gen editions of games like 2k12 on ps2 or 2k13 psp

Charles Barkley was only able to be in 2k16 because 2k has the rights to team usa players, but they need to renew their rights for individual players every once in a while.

Here is another Charles Barkley tidbit to add to the iceberg. Barkley has made appearances in both 2K13 and 2K17 as part of the Dream Team. HOWEVER, Barkley is also featured in NBA 2K23 as part of the All-Star Game in the Jordan Challenges. The means of finding him are only accessible via PC, where modding the game to allow for the Jordan Challenge rosters to be edited. There is a generic PF on the East Team named Norman Vincent, who stands at 6'6, from Auburn University, playing for the Philadelphia 76ers. With the edited rosters saved beforehand, entering the Jordan Challenges would have those rosters loaded. (For example, if I put LeBron on the North Carolina team and save the roster, he will appear in the challenge). Scoring with Barkley in the Jordan Challenge has a chance of triggering a unique commentary dialogue that drops the name Charles Barkley and his nickname, the Round-Mound of Rebound. That remains his only mention throughout the game. What it could have meant was that Barkley was close to being part of the game considering they could have brought back the Dream Team again as part of the challenge or got his image rights completely due to the line being recorded but we will never know.
