No, VHS definitely hits different. My family stayed at a beach house for a few days in a town with no internet or cell service (just a land line). The house only had an old CRT tv and large collection of VHS. We watched Mrs Doubtfire and City Slickers. My kids loved it and it really felt surreal, like we were back in the 90s for a few days.

I thought the bad end was going to be the only end tbh. I can't remember where I've seen the trope of a killer going into a remote area, only to find out his neighbors are killers/cultists or whatever, and ends up being their latest victim. I know I've seen it in movies and whatnot, but I forget which ones.
