I'd have given this album: Personal Enjoyability: 80/100 Objective Quality (or my perception of it at least): 55/100 In my opinion Wiped Out! was a way better album but obviously Anthony doesn't like that album either which I sort of understand but I thought I'd just address the issues he has with this one, not to change his mind just to give my opinion on why I like it. He said the album was: Run of the mill - This very specific blend of R&B, Synthpop, Hip-Hop and Indie/Surf I haven't heard done as well as this before, I would love someone to tell me others they think sound similar however Primped indie rock - I'd say the production is fairly clean, on their last album at least it was a little more dark, I don't think it would've fit to do that for this also Safe and bland - Quite safe apart from some of the vocal choices and the songwriting for the vocals lean further on the side of variation instead of being predictable, specifically on the hook to Revenge which is currently growing on me Boring lead vocals/ Baby man voice - Not much I can really say but I like the vocals, on Jesse Rutherford's mixtape & he plays around with his voice more and takes more of a risk, I will say that he doesn't go all in with the self titled album Vague malaise - I can see why he thinks this but I hold more credence in the atmosphere of a song than him MGMT but not weird - I don't see how being weird makes you good, sometimes a certain sound can be good and not call for weirdness Shallow - I did find the lyrics on this album specifically more general but again I don't think the purpose is to be mindbogglingly poignant or anything, just some braggadocios smooth sounding songs to make you feel good Again not trying to change anyone's mind but this was my take on the review.

@inatklw6 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you man. Neighbourhood's Wiped Out was really good, Anthony did them dirty. They're not Radiohead, but they aren't that bland and safe (like if you wanna talk about some safe bland music go listen to some Imagine Dragons or 21 Pilots, NBHD are a different story in comparison) - the mix of RnB+Indie+Surf+Hip-Hop you pointed out is pretty unique to me. I really hoped Anthony would admit that when Wiped Out! was released. I also don't see "Baby Man Voice" being a problem and Jesse is actually a quite good vocalist. I wonder if Fantano knows Jesse helped Kevin Abstract with vocal melodies on his album.
@mellow-mike6 жыл бұрын
It's not like Anthony's Lil Yachty review where I couldn't even muster up an explanation to how he got the score but I certainly think that Anthony isn't really the target demographic

i’m giving the album an 9 out of 10, only because i’m not a huge fan of the track ‘Revenge’. but critics, unfortunately including yourself, have been bashing their music for quite sometime now. they change their style and try to make what they think people want to hear. i have loved every album they’ve put out. and i am a fan of yours. but personally, i think The Neighbourhood should have stopped giving a fuck what critics/reviewers like yourself think a long time ago and just make what they want. because up to this point i’ve loved everything in their catalog and i love the band for what their music is. i think it’d be even better and i and many other fans would enjoy it even more if they quit letting opinions like this determine whether or not they completely change their sound on an album.

My top fifteen "The Neighborhood" songs: 1)Flawless 2)Female Robbery 3)What do you want from me - the guitarist 4)Float 5) Prey - the lyrics 6) R.I.P to my youth 7) Staying up 8) Alleyways 9) Wires 10) Daddy Issues 11) Let it go 12) How 13) crybaby 14) A moment of silence- dude i kid you not....there is no actual sound. Its LITERALLY just silence. Its equally pretentious and funny. 15) Afraid - describes anxiety supreme , but it feels sort of edgy. Bonus >Lurk - i don't like the hook. Also, it sounds like just another nbhd song. >Sweater weather - the lyrics are kind of dumb. >compass - greatly underrated but still mediocre > Beach - medicore > wiped out - medicore >Baby came home - noice >baby came home 2 - not noice > west coast - sort of pretentious, ewwww, but it grew on me? Sadderdaze - really just a slow song, but they implemented some really nice strings. Like a synth violin? But I've noticed, that Jesse is a bit self centered in his music. It annoys me. >24/7 - cool beat :) the lyrics are repetitive and seem like a reiteration of other nbhd songs. >You get me so high - nice beats but the lyrics seem indespensible. Like the song would still be good with other lyrics. > Dust - intresting >scary love - more mall perfume store music. >Heaven - nope >Softcore - :/ Most of their music sound the same bro. Same chords, same synthesizers, same ol Jesse singing about his fragile sephora feelings.
