The Neural DSP NANO Cortex MUST HAVE THIS!

Upon hearing the rumors surrounding a potential release of a Nano Cortex, I had to chime in with why I love my Quad Cortex. And if this Nano (if it comes to fruition) doesn't have this feature, then I really don't see why I'd buy it. Am I alone in my view on this?

If Neural DSP comes out with a smaller, more compact version of the Quad Cortex, what does it have to have for you to buy it?

While I agree with you about interface and ease of use being a big factor, I'd say that's third in line behind sound quality and cost. My current rig is primarily an old Tonex pedal that is honestly a bit lacking in the interface dept (actually not bad once you get used to it) but honestly, with a couple of very high end paid captures I've purchased pretty inexpensively, I'm currently getting the best tone I've ever had the pleasure of playing and all out of a box that is $400. For me, I'd say a screenless nano cortex would need to sound 100% like a QC, maybe with a lesser processor to serve 1 single guitar player (not 4!) and be somewhere in the $400 - $549 ish range. I suspect that price range is just wishful thinking, unfortunately, but we'll just have to wait and see!

If it makes the unit cheaper, I don’t mind not having a screen. If I can tweak parameters on phone.

Excellent overview, I 100% agree Paul. I was so excited about a smaller "Dual Cortex" simplified and less expensive, but with that brilliant UI.

seems like it's BT controllable. so not a big deal having no screen, especially if that allows to use a simple 9v power supply.

It’s kind of funny. My main rig is a Mac Mini and I use an iPad as the UI and monitor. Given we’re walking around with screens and processors or tremendous power, it’s interesting to seeing them being use to shrink cost and dimensions. I’d still need some visual feedback on preset name and number myself.

I use the software for my Axe FX, I don't need the screen. To me the screen is a waste of money especially if you have a decent studio to work out of during the setup process. I use the software 100%

The screen will be your iPhone or iPad via the Bluetooth

For them to make a more affordable product with fewer features, my guess would be that they will make your smartphone the screen of the product. Through an app connected via Bluetooth or something. I hope it's not that though. I would much prefer a Dual Cortex type of thing with a screen and maybe half the DSP capacity rather than a QC with no screen and 2 footswitches... Let's see what they will announce tmrw :)

Yes, something like a Dual with a screen makes so much more sense to me. I don't mind using my phone for some things. But to pull up an app to tweak my amp settings when the amp is sitting right there. Hmmm, I dunno. :)

Completely agree. QC user since year 1 and hands down still my favorite device in my studio. Would I get mini as a backup- maybe but not a definite as I prefer the all in one approach of the big brother (or father)

Yes, I did hear that. I think Bluetooth would be fantastic but to have to use the phone in addition to the Nano, that just doesn't do it for me personally. I mean, my Helix Stomp has a nice bright screen, albeit not a touch screen. It makes me wonder if one day there will be a Nano (no screen and much lower price point) and then a unit about the size of the Stomp with a screen. I guess I could see that happening...eventually. :)

It will have bluetooth apparently, so most likely they will come out with an app to use our current phones or tablets as a screen which would made a lot of sense. You don't actually need the screen to be on your feet and It would be a lot better to just have it in your hands. We will probably know by this time tomorrow

As much as I use the screen on my Quad, I think I'm addicted and that's why I would want the screen on the Nano too. :) I understand the idea of a bluetooth connected app, but I always seem to be using my phone for 100 other things so to use it for the amp too, I don't know. I'm anxious to see what develops!

@@PaulWarrenMusic yes I get it. I am a QC user also and have tried or owned most of the other top tier digital platforms. As a complete unit and with a relative small form factor the QC is perfect right now. Yes it lacks many features that others have and the pace of updates has been questionable. But at this point I think it has a good balance. The new nano is aimed probably to many players that just want a small unit to put in their current pedalboard, like the Kemper Player that for me was the biggest disappointment from all the Kemper products (I was a long time Kemper user). I don't know if you have seen the pics that have leaked from the nano cortex, but if they are true it will not have a screen and only 2 footswitches. I´ll keep using the QC probably.

No screen at all is a bit weird but if there's an App to run on a phone I'd possibly be interested. Most of my pedalboard is now controlled from a Luminite M1 but I admit I like to see the screens on the other devices change when they're supposed to, so a device without a screen at all might leave me slightly paranoid!

Got the nano today and it’s horrible. Disappointment and more disappointment they haven’t made all the plug ins compatible yet. Need another 4 years 😂 Think I’m gonna jump ship and go another route.
