And a repaired console should be worth less than a non repaired console, generally. Especially in this case, the seller sent a box of parts... doesn't inspire confidence in me even if repaired (have not finished the video) something else isn't a ticking time bomb after being mishandled and shipped. Pay a little more, get a factory warranty and a brand new system.

You can barely break even with this deal when you add shipping and tax. You can get a brand new PS5 slim disc for $424. The disc drive can easily go for $80-100 and $50-70 for the controller. The brand system alone is $250-280 which is crazy.

Hey Steve, I wanted to thank you because your ps4 disk drive repair video helped me take apart my ps4 slim and fix issues with it. I'm not good with taking apart electronic devices let alone a big-ass console but through your video I was able to do it and I'm not confident in fixing some other devices too. I had to take it apart the ps4, 3 more times after that and I always watched that same video as a guide. Wish you good health and lots of happiness.

How come broken consoles are so expensive? I just bought a brand new PS5 with disc drive and a controller for 414$ a month ago. That includes a 2 year warranty. So I think that 300$ for a broken PS5 that may not be fixable is way too much. Should be max 200$ or less

Hey Steve. I was doing some maintenance on a Ps5 that was overheating and after founding the biggest dry spot I've seen I noticed that some of the liquid metal actually solidified and it had a sand-like consistency. Have you ever encountered that? Great video as always.

I just bought 4 broken PS5's for $150 total on FB Marketplace. Was gonna fix them myself but listed them for more than I bought them for if there were any bites. Just sold for $260 and went and bought a used working PS5 for $250 lol. (I don't have any soldering experience so fixing them myself would have taken a bit as I learn how to solder this winter)

That particular model HDMI port has a design flaw, where it doesn’t have a good backstop so the pins get pushed or moved best to replace with the better HDMI port

Stupid question: Why do you solder with the soldering on the tip and Joey doesn't? Is one technique more preferred? I've always used your technique on electronics and his method on say pipes.

Are you talking about why I put the solder on the iron? Back in the day that was a no no but now it doesn't really matter. Traditionally a technician would heat up the components then flow the solder onto the hot components. Technically that's probably still a better way to do it but as long as you make sure you're making good joints it works fine to put the solder on the iron first, imo.

Honestly, based on what I have seen, if you have to pick one of those two, the average user is going to get more value out of the slim. The pro is hundreds of dollars more expensive and the difference is small unless you have a really nice high end TV and you have to be on the bleeding edge with the absolute best of everything.

Damn, that was expensive for a damaged PS5 that came in about a million pieces. Lucky it was fixable, but that should have been sold for a lot less. Used working ones here go for around £200 to £300 for the disc version (well unless you go to the rip off stores that charge nearly the price of a new one).
