Yes. Exactly why I bought my IS. After a S4 that was in the shop all the time and a few mercs that had to be towed from the front of my house at some point. There is nothing more luxurious than something that just works. So far my IS has been bullet proof despite me having my fun with it, hopefully it stays like that. I'm sure it will given Lexus's reputation.

Turn off traction by holding the button for about 5 seconds and it won't auto upshift at redline. Also, the shift lever can be pushed forward (upshift) or pulled back (downshift), but the paddles are better because your hands don't leave the wheel.

I totally understand when you explained the “dead zone” response that the MK7 GTI has when you get on the throttle. It’s just the nature of a turbo car. Funny thing is, is that I recently went to the VW Golf GTI forums to explain how I can’t stand this “dead zone” that the GTI has, as I come from an E46 M3 that has an amazing throttle response. Well, people in the forums started blasting me saying the car doesn’t have hardly any turbo lag or turbo threshold. I knew at that moment that none of the guys responding to me have ever owned a good N/A sports car before, because when you do, and then you drive a turbo car, you feel the difference immediately!

The M3 also has ITBs, so it’s specifically designed for throttle response. The e39 540i on the other hand, doesn’t. While it’s a V8, the throttle response was mediocre.

You can have variable camber through a double wishbone suspension. If the two wishbones are different lengths the camber will change throughout the travel. If the bottom wishbone is longer the camber will go more negative as the suspension loads and go positive as it unloads. Vice versa for longer top wishbone.
@OVER5TEER
@OVER5TEER 4 жыл бұрын
Exactly - almost all double wishbone setups are unequal length, also called SLA (short/long arm) so that there is camber gain with compression. This is actually an advantage of SLA over strut suspension, the exact opposite of what Matt said.

Double wishbone *does* change camber through the suspension stroke. The upper control arm is shorter than the lower one, so negative camber is increased as the suspension compresses. This is desirable so chassis roll and tire carcass flex are compensated for, keeping the contact patch parallel with the ground.

I think Lexus did really well for a mass sale car. Everyone gets all hype-y about 400 hp and zomg needs all this race tech to the average user this car is a good balance of cost. Luxury. Performance and looks and will sell well. The better Lexii will. Be catered to the more performance or grand touring crowd. I feel the lack of a turbo here parallels subarus own philosophy that you don't need "more horsepower" to keep selling cars. You need to make then fun and zippy and accessible. Saves cost and reaches more people.

Coming from someone who has the RC200T, I would take the new 2021 IS350 F Sport all day. N/A engines and the immediate response is so much better than that half second dead zone (which feels like a full second when your hitting the throttle and waiting) of the turbo. 5.8 seconds 0-60 also seems fine to me as far as speed, the turbo version coming in at 6.9 seconds.

Forget the m3 , isf gives you Lexus reliability with the v8 grunt . I love the m3 but like most BMW v8 they run into into mechanical issues; If you get an m3 definitely find a good aftermarket warranty company to cover the car .

Really depends on your situation, if you have to drive a lot then I won’t recommend the M3 as your only car. If you really want the m3 then get it and get a cheaper reliable car. E90 M3 is a very special in every way that’s why I wouldn’t recommend that you daily it as it’s going to cost you and it won’t be too good for the too. I’d personally go for a cheap daily, something like a Infiniti g35 or a older is and get the m3 as a weekend car.

I've got an '05 IS350, these things are the perfect balance between daily usability mixed with enough power to have fun on the backroads. Feels like a Jack of All Trades sort of situation, where the IS-F is muuuuch better in performance, but the 350 brings a great daily experience. I can completely understand why Lexus is sticking with these tried and true engines, they're bulletproof and really nice. I would like to feel how the 8 speed changes the driving feel, but I can imagine it's really only for increased fuel efficiency at higher speeds. Which is nice for road trips. I also like the noise these engines make with a good exhaust system.

Hey LEXUS. Life long lover here. Here’s a great tip to really cause some excitement for your brand. Take this exact design on the 2021 IS. Give it the 5.0 V8. Carbon ceramic brakes from Brembo. Michelin pilot sport tires or Goddyear Eagle F1. DONT use augmented sounds for the engine. Use carbon fiber genuinely. And be bold. Offer a manual. Yeah I like that. And of course a ELSD. The car would take it to the Germans.

incorrect about the double wishbone, in cars they're typically setup to gain negative camber under compression, and thats why they handle better than McStruts (all else being equal). The best you can hope for in a McStrut car is for no camber change, most gain positive camber. High suspension travel double wishbones (such as in trucks and offroad buggies) can be setup little to no camber change, but thats not what you want in a car
@maxsale2927
@maxsale2927 4 жыл бұрын
McPherson strut is basically tracing the arc of a circle as you go through travel. The bottom of the wheel will be farthest out (most negative camber) when the arm is parallel to the ground. When the arm starts to point upward, you lose negative camber as the arm is pulling the bottom of the wheel back toward the center of the car. So, depending on the angle of the arm at neutral and fully compressed positions, you can have negative camber gain. A well designed McPherson setup will just never be able to achieve as much camber gain as a well designed double wishbone or multilink.

What is up with the 'if you need to turn TC off on a public road, your over driving the car' thing at 7:40? In the 2014 IS F-Sport review you said turning the TC off was needed for spirited driving as it was way to invasive and did not let you hit the rev limiter without shifting on it's own....

Any is350 owner is screaming to push the traction control button for ten seconds. Put it in sport plus or sport and u shift into second or third gear befor going into turns.. or put it in manual mode and ride out 3rd gear or 4th lol. Also. The computer in this car learns your driving so doing a ecu reset before testing the car would make a big difference in how the throttle responds. It sounds like a lot. But it’s worth it. The traction control is the first thing to do. You don’t over drive it. It just now handles how it should.
