@Roger.T The Nord instruments sound good, but the weighted keybed feel is not to my liking. I also don't like the overall aesthetics of their instruments. I feel that Roland RD-2000 and Korg Nautilus 88-key are far better than anything from Nord.

Problem is that would make it a competition to 80% of Korgs own newest and most valuable synths, but yes that would have been cool. I think that Korg earns a lot more money in selling all those Pi based mini synths than they ever did with the whole catalog of Oasys based models. This is just a rebranded Kronos with some new hardware and some more modern sample libraries just as Nautilus was in a slightly "cheaper" package without all the real time controllers. They just waited what .. 4 years ? to figure out there were still a market for the Kronos for the pro people in cover bands and various session bands that tours with the big stars to have an opportunity to trade in their old Kronos's as they start to fail. It's still the most powerful Workstation ever made and People that like either the software or hardware version of the different smaller Synth will still be buying them, also if they may slightly overlap each other in what kind of musicians that typically buy them. If you are a Pro and need a Wavestate, Modwave etc. you WILL still buy them separately even you have one or 2 Kronos already for touring. Korg don't really need to put more functionality in the Kronos. Those that seriously use the different engines and sampling engine will most likely know what software to use to get maximum effect out of the slightly archaic UI of the Kronos. But still, they could easily do a full overhaul of the UI without having to sacrifice the backward compatibility with the earlier models. I don't see a reason to trade my own K2 in as long as it works flawlessly, but for those that really relies on the Kronos on stage, and where the reliability already is a problem I am glad Korg releases a new model, even it only got a slight better factory library of samples as an upgrade. I would have liked to see a more powerful hardware with a software that was able at least deliver 2x-3x as much realstical polyphony. But they most likely just chose some new hardware that is able to run the standard software and that at the same time cost half as much today so they can actually up there earnings on a 4k instrument.

@@WarrenPostma Ya. Reason you choose a Kronos will most likely be for live gigs. You can live with that the CX3 isn't a state of the art clonewheel and it doesn't feature real analog modelling. The different engines gives you a good amount of freedom creating sounds for various hits no matter if its Rock, Pop, Disco etc. in one box and they still sound very good. Chances are that if you are either a big band with more than one keyboardist or just an "Organ guy" that you already have a better clonewheel for serious organ comping. And you have some serious possibilities to make more crazy organ sounds in the Kronos with all its effects than you have in most clone wheels that more focus on delivering the cleanest "raw" B3/C3 sound. I'd say a person that really understands the different engines can make "ANY" sound you need with it that comes pretty darn close to hat ARP/CS-80/etc sound on a record that usually is a blend of several synths + effects so how you get there is kinda irrelevant if it's made of 2-3 Kronos sounds with effects than a real Jupiter 80 and Prophet mix with added 80's effects. if it sounds just 90% right the listeners won't care if you used a Kronos or any other modern Synth to emulate that sound.

Well in my opinion, they should already be worried. They’ve yet to match Korg’s quality of sounds. Korg just pays better attention to the details. And I’ve been a Yamaha guy for years and scratch my head as to why the flagship keyboards don’t have better piano and ep samples. They save those for the stage piano product lines which are missing some of the more powerful stations in the workstations. Korg doesn’t play those games. Flagship means all the best stuff is in there. And Roland has been recycling sounds for over 10yrs now.

Sure it’s changed since then but one room had the 3 ws’s I was interested in. Each one had powered stereo speakers. Out in the hallway was a row of Yamaha’s to include the Avante-garde flagship. Of all the grand piano samples, going back and forth playing, touching, sound quality only one stood out as the best of the best…Kronos hands down! The electronic synth industry seems to be marketed like the car industry which needs to bring out new model versions with minimal changes almost every year. Even this new Kronos 3 model was designed in parallel with the next two models (probably the Kronos 3-Ex or Kronos 4 or some other irrelevant pro-fix jargon). Meanwhile I still have and use my Roland D-50 and many other gadgets from several decades ago. As a Nautilus owner am happy to stick with what I have. Yes am sure Kronos 3 will have slightly better features, sound maybe, but from what I see here, not worth shelling out another £3k plus for them. Not forgetting the crazy MIDI driver on Windows situation which Korg obviously thinks isn't a big deal, but anyone these days can have equipment that uses up those precious 10 MIDI ports very quickly. So sick of having to use uninstall workaround to get them connected again to my DAW. An issue that no other brand has and something that should have been fixed a decade ago.

There’s only so far these keyboards can evolve. Sample based technology has probably peaked. I’m grateful the Kronos 3 is going to be available as I own both the 73 and 61 key versions (version 2) and can attest that the sounds are great, the action is solid, the user interface offers knobs and buttons and sliders for immediate access to so many parameters. With this instrument one can go deep or simply use the vast and varied presets to cover a wide array of genre. Yes it would be nice to have more polyphony, a larger SSD, a much improved organ engine, and so on but the original design was so far ahead of its time that it still is an incredible tool (especially if one actually dives in and utilizes it’s full potential) for covering existing music and creating new. I bought the original Kronos back in 2012 and loved the thing. The big issue for me was the uninspiring GUI and crappy touchscreen... if they have sorted that out then could be quite nice. But yes they should have all those OPSIX, Wavestate engines IMHO...

I have that version as well. Fabulous sounds but agree fully re it’s gui etc. And I still have not figured how to use some of its features! But, on the positive side, the instructions are better than on their D 3200 recorder which I used for live band recording for several years!. Cannot see myself buying the new version of the Kronos.

Yep live keyboard workstation players definitely want a rack mount unit. Said no-one ever. This thing could be a VST on your mac studio in 1/10th the space and at 1/10th the cost.

I can't see current K2 users getting in line for one of these. Sure, a 1-minute boot time would be welcome. But given that the K3 will likely retail for $4K - $5K and the resale value of my K2 is likely around $1K, that's a pretty steep price just to save a minute every time I boot up. More sounds built in? Cool. But for that kind of money, I could buy every third-party Kronos library and still be ahead of the game. If they want my money, they'll have to tell me it now weighs 20lb.

IMHO, if Karma isn't reworked, it's not worth the buy. The KRONOS 1+2 lacked the simplicity of a convenient arpeggiator, or at least some ease of use. It also has a gruesome GUI when it comes to programming all the Karma stuff. You basically get all the sounds on the old KRONOS, too. The only real selling point ist the updated hardware infrastructure, which may result in better polyphony in complex combinations (and, of course, better boot speeds). Insofar, it's an overdue update, but no new features. It's 15 year old renowned technology that finally got a technological facelift. I would have loved a KRONOS successor that dares to combine the powers of a deeply programmable Workstation with the hands on live control capabilities of a keyboard like the NORD Stage. But i guess that's nearly impossible to pull off. Like others already have pointed out, small computers and laptops have grown up to a point where Workstations are becoming obsolete. Insofar, i am not surprised that KORG isn't coming up with a totally new flagship keyboard. However, KRONOS still is king. And there are some reasons to have on in your back pocket.

I'm glad the Kronos is coming back, but seeing the video makes me a bit sad as well. Let me share my thoughts.... I have the impression that the main reason for this revival is that the Nautilus was basically a cheaper and more profitable downgrade compared to the Kronos, and the accountants at Korg probably saw that reflected in their sales numbers. Hence a rescue operation was started to bring the Kronos back to life. However, since the old Intel motherboards with the Atom D510 or D525 were not available anymore, Korg was forced to switch to a newer platform, which obviously came with a 60% faster boot time, inherent to using newer hardware and without having to do any re-engineering!!!! I was able to achieve faster boot times with my old Kronos by simply replacing the original motherboard with a much newer one, so no surprises there. Further, I think that the new surface finish looks like my old Yamaha KX88 keyboard from 1985. I hope it looks better in real, but my first impression is a bit yuck-ish..... Also the black finished wood reminds me of old digital pianos. Put some black paint over it, so nobody sees it is just some cheap wood instead of some prime quality wood. All in all, my first impression is that in its appearance this new Kronos does not look modern at all. I hope there are more improvements under the hood that really makes this a worthy successor to the previous Kronos generations, but thus far I am not impressed. But let's not judge the book by its cover and just wait and see. Let's hope the final release will be more than just reviving an 14 years old machine. Please let it be a worthy next generation. 🙏

Hmm, would like to see a much better touch screen in the Kronos 3. Ok, there are a lot of new features on board … nice but I think a serious musician is hardly going to use these …( imo ). I’m thinking more of sound design, live features, more engines, no sequencer or maybe a small one because there are still limitations and the most people using a DAW. Should be nice to use the Kronos as an extension with your pc … the same like the brand Acces Virus. … ok my point of view 😊

Disappointing update, maybe the old, unrevised sequencer is still there, the same limited RAM size because of the 32 bit operating system/CPU, 62 GB hard drive isn't much, the 20 year old Oasys already had 40 GB, you get 1 TB today for free(or under 100 Euros). Installing the same synth plugins unchanged for 20 years takes courage, or is a sign of lack of concept and a “we don’t feel the future, we have no clue” mentality. Old wine in new bottles.

Re releasing a 12 year old instrument and increasing the price is criminal. They should have released a rack mount. What the real message is that 1) Nautulus was ugly and Cheap. 2) their next gen player has been delayed more than Korg has anticipated. Now Korg want you to buy their Kronos and for you to sell you Kronos X or Kronos 2. Just to buy their same thing? At the increased price, I wonder if they’ll add octave transpose button. It’s just two buttons.

Korg make sure at this time before you release the Kronos 3 make a dedicate class for Kronos users there are more amateurs than pro buyers so this monster workstation I’m sure enough needs a dedicated tutorial how to use it in many applications on , Also don’t forget to make and advance editor no cheep small and difficult to the read Is way too expensive but buyers they deserve a list those options.

I used a Triton from the late 90s onwards, still got it. Awesome workstation, I know it back to front and love it. Bought Kronos 2 in 2016, same workflow, got right into it immediately. Brilliant. Massive and desirable successor to the Triton. It's a keyboard for live use, the set list mode is the best solution of any workstation for gigging musicians. Loads of us use it for live work, because it effortlessly uses our user samples and sequences in the live environment, plus provides good quality sounds and a reasonable weighted keybed - not as good as a Nord stage 3, which I also own, but I will always take the Kronos on a gig before the Nord. 73 key version is compact and no heavier to move around than the Nord stage 3. In many ways, the perfect keyboard for the gigging musician. The only problem? The crazy slow start up time. If the power dips on a gig you have to wait 90 seconds for it to reboot. Kronos 3? Looks like they've improved the start up time - pretty much everything else is the same. So I'll stick to my Kronos 2

Yes I didn't hear anything really new. I think korg didn't give every detail about the new kronos. I'm interested in knowing if they up the amount of memory for samples. Also enable it to have more engines . You need memory and I guess a new cpu for that. I will wait for the updates. My kronos 2 is just fine.

@@jryanmood Same 9 synth engines as before. Same interface, same RH3 keyboard. New sounds yeah, but these will be made available as a sound pack for the Kronos 2 and Nautilus. So I see no appeal in the Kronos 3 other than a shorter boot up time. I'm happy to be proved wrong though.

@@thoris59 I'm with you on this from what I've heard so far. If they were releasing Kronos 3 with a new keybed and a shorter boot up time I'd definitely be listening. Kronos 2 is possibly the best keyboard for live use if you're in a band and using straight programs, samples or sequencing. The set list feature alone clinches it. Though I'm willing to be proved wrong by Roland or Yamaha fans

@ well OK then. Until more people get there hands on it we can only go off of what has already been said. I think you’d agree that the Kronos is the most powerful music workstation out there. Karma itself is extremely powerful. I do wish they’d put a bigger ssd in it. 62 gb doesn’t seem like as much as it used to.
