Great!node editor is the future, the slate material editor update is a good upgrade, mostly texture map will full over fill my window, the node group function is turely useful! I hope node editor can also use on the modeling stack system, so i can see the modeling structure and modifier more clear.
@rajendrameena150
@rajendrameena150 Жыл бұрын
the modelling actually is node based inside the system but the interface show it as a modifier stack because max dont have anygood node editor window , not just for material but anything else. I am saying this because in 3ds max you can make instance of any modifier like use same extrude modifier on two different shapes with all the paramters sharing with each other, this function can't be done by layer/stack system as it is unique in node workflow to reuse the same node for multiple objects. the node editor of 3ds max is influenced by blender's "everything nodes" project as in animation nodes are way superior to work and handle large amount of work, thats why houdini, BM fusion, nuke, pftrack, all are node based.

All the features of 3ds max is highly influenced by blender development so I can say that parallel development of open-source software is very important, also if only open-source softwares are left then they loose the direction of achieving something. Strange but true.... The Boolean also improved in 3ds max due to boxcutter addon of blender, slate material editor window docking feature is inspired from blender shading workspace, I am also started learning rhino and I see how cunningly max implemented the features of it, anyway the competition is a good thing for the industry to grow...

Thanks, excellent tutorial - but I don't like node editor in max. That could be one type of view when work in one or two materials, but in real life scene where you have a lot of material it is not working any more, too complicated and constant zoom. Better UI could be simple list of parameters, or table where you can filter quickly what you are working on or get overview of all the material in the scene.
@guitop
@guitop Жыл бұрын
In Slate material you dont work that way, you select the object you want to modifiy and "grab" his material to modifiy it. . Once it's done you "erase" it and move on. And in the cases you want to have a lot of material, there is the tab system she is showing you at first. You would gain so much using it you wouldnt not even believe it. Especially to work with instanciated map in multiple different materials, it's so usefull. I am an early adopter when it was launched 10 years ago, i would never go back.

The problem I have is that right side of the slate editor (parameters rollout) truncates parameters window from the right side and at least 20% of all necessary parameters are left outside the editor and it makes it impossible to use. I did all I could - reinstall, changed DPI - it just doesn't care. Happens in 2024 version.

@@ss54dk yes I know that that helps, but the thing is that you oftenly have to change something in edit poly or mesh. For example in blender this transition is instant but max loads the modifier penel for five seconds. Another speedup is closing the material slate which is what my question refers to. If its closed the selection becomes much faster and there lies the problem cuz most of the time near the end of a project is spent tweaking the materials. Wouldn't it be insane to close the material slate every time you want to select another object and then opening it again. Not to mention that if I have the RT running closing my material slate crashes max

The only reason for using 3ds max is not 3ds max but rather the render engines like corona, fstorm. Also the availability of huge library of models because max was only good software till 4 years ago. Rest the functions of 3ds max seems outdated and I use blender+rhino for all my modelling needs because 3ds max don't support exporting 2d drawing just like rhino does.

@@ss54dk That is not the point, the point is that 3dsmax as a software has been a bit behind in terms of innovation and in my personal opinion, it is very cumbersome to use if compared to other software. If some of those render engines and other famous plugins were 100% involved in Blender, I think many would have made the switch by now.

@@ss54dk even same Situation is for 3ds max, even blender has inbuilt render engines that is actually used by people. forest pack, railclone, floor generator. And I don't mind using pluggins for any program they just help to complete any specific needs ,without them any program is just for specific needs and blender is a community program so it is obvious that it will have more pluggins and obviously program and add-ons both have just code. Program compliles many codes and addon execute small code but at the end it matters all to the completion of work.

You want to import DWG as well as Max can do (with units system and all) ? Blender cant You want to import Catproduct (catia models) ? Blender cant. There are a lot of reasons to use 3ds Max, but maybe you dont have to, that doesnt make your case a general statment. Blender just had a big update : hair. Great but i dont care. People are complaining about all the clutter slate material editor does, why not max add a feature to show only materials of selected mesh. The two side of slate material editor makes it to consume so much viewport space that docking will not solve the issue, the create/modifier panel can have one additional tab to show the material properties just like we change modifier parameters. Why you are showing this feature with so much enthusiasm when 3ds max is not solving the problems of material editor. All the major 3d package offers very good material workflow even I love the way blender implemented this, 3ds max user either use compact or slate material editor but blender use quick material addition just like compact material editor and when we actually want to advance our shaders we can switch to dedicated workspace where the same material automatically appears in the form of nodes. I know 3ds max can also do the same but it is manual process not the automatic one. I now feels that all Autodesk softwares are just like design for a specific need even they can also fulfil other needs but they don't wanted to, they wanted you to buy more and more product and become the consumer of Autodesk workflow. Until or unless you try different software, you can't know this slavery, you just think that 3ds max is best.

Depends on your field i would say, i am expecting enormous changes in Blender before being able ot use it in archviz. (DWG importer, Catia importer as a starting point)
@MatteBlob
@MatteBlob Жыл бұрын
@@guitop Alright let's talk about archviz for instance, you need good cloth simulation which you can't get without purchasing TyFlow/Marvelous Designer, you might need fluid simulations for bathrooms which you need plugins like PhoenixFD for, you need good terrain generation which you can now get only because of TyFlow's latest update, you need iToo Forestpack/V-Ray Scatter for the environement + tens of other small plugins and scripts to just be able to generate architectural patterns and modular designs. We're talking about a software that the majority of it's content creators and users are purchasing it for archviz only, and there is no possible way to do real archviz in Max without all this shenanigan. Not to mention that a lot of their users need good sculpting tools, better hair generation tools, better UVW Unwrapping and a robust procedural texture system without relying so much on plugins. Max manages to disappoint me every single time!
@guitop
@guitop Жыл бұрын
@@MatteBlob I disagree on those plugins requirements. Never had to use marveouls or tyflow, neither phoenix. I will jsut agree on Forestpack and railclone, and yet they have updated Array and scattering objects in 3DS Max recently. So they are not "required" for say. You dont need scultping tools in archviz, and let's not talk about the need of hairs lol. Anyway, believe me i would love to be able to use Blender for pro work, it's just not possible with some workflow, aka DWG import, or catproduct (Catia). And it's ok, i may swap when this will be available, one day. Blender seems great, not saying otherwise, but it's not just there yet for everyone.
