There will only be one Stan and Ollie

Whoever wrote the story for this movie must have seen their crossover with Scooby-Doo and assumed that monsters were a recurring theme in Laurel and Hardy

Either that or the executives who approved it mistook them for Abbot and Costello.

There was that one short where they got chased by a drunk guy they thought was a ghost. I’m guessing that’s all they saw.

Yes, I agree that there will only be one Stan & Ollie....but in the wake of the recent biopic, this movie should be re-made with Steve Coogan, John C. Riley, F. Murray Abraham, and Jessica Alba.

The actors playing the main characters don't even look like Laurel and Hardy..... The new movie nailed the looks of the 2.

Who in their right mind thought redoing Laurel and Hardy was a bright idea because please I want to know.

This particular film was the brainchild of Larry Harmon, who owned a merchandising copyright on Laurel and Hardy through their surviving widows (he also owned the rights to Bozo the Clown and makes a cameo in this film that can be seen in this review @ 23:40 ). Laurel and Hardy fans in general hate Larry Harmon with a red hot passion.

I mean they are supposed to be their nephews (or something) I think they do passable 'impressions' One of the main problems is the plot if more like an Abbott and Costello. Supernatural things didn't really factor in L & H films.
@SuperCosmicMutantSquid4 жыл бұрын
And that's to say a lot considering that there were a lot of silly plots in the L&H shorts and movies. But you're right. This feels more like Abbott and Costello.

Nice Atoll K (or Utopia) reference there. That movie was about as sad to watch as this one probably was; even as a kid, I could tell how forced and tired the performances from the duo were. I'd never heard of this movie till I found this video. Now I'm thankful I never ever saw it. Fantastic review. Nice to see someone reviewing the classics these days.

Great review! Ever since I was very little I was a big fan of Laurel and Hardy. I saw this film a couple years ago out of curiosity. I don't remember much of it which I guess is a good thing. it was cool that you included a cinema Snob clip. I didn't know you were a fan of brad! That's cool

"Eet ees a figure of speech, you silly cow." XDDD I'm new to your channel, but I must thank you for this review. We watched this movie on the bus when I was a kid, and for the next 20 years or so it's driven me nuts trying to remember the title of that movie. I only found out this morning thanks to the Cinema Snob, and then I found your review... which had the Snob in it! I'm not gonna tattle or anything, but I'm honestly just curious; did you have Brad Jones' permission to use that clip, or was that just a tribute? (I don't think the Snob would care, he's famous-ish, but I'm just wondering.) Everything I remember about the movie is here. And I especially remember the part where the dad finishes that dead-mother story, cutting to the two men asleep. Even as a kid I remember being off-put by that. Like, "wait, that was supposed to be funny?" But I do remember laughing my ass off at the "catching the sarcophagus" bit, and trying to row with the sarcophagus's two scepters (while wondering how something previously established to be heavy is suddenly floating like a boat). But I never knew one of the guys was the drama queen from "The Langoliers!" You have a good delivery style (better than my amateur ass's anyway) and I love the 1920s bowler hat and handlebar 'stache! (But I hope it's not real.) And I love the clips you insert throughout, especially the Pinky and the Brain one. And your final "Oooh fuck of" was wonderful. XDDDD And the final fade from black and white to color was actually pretty awesome.

Thanks, glad to know you enjoyed the video. Sorry to disappoint but my moustache is real, as is my distaste for this movie. I did use that clip without permission from Brad Jones. In hindsight I really shouldn't have bothered since I could have just done the exact same reaction myself. I think the video I got it from had just come out at the time and it made me laugh so much that's why I pinched it. I'm sure he wouldn't mind or care.
@lizzychrome76307 жыл бұрын
He probably won't care. And your facial hairs is legally yours to style as you wish. And nostalgia aside, this movie does look pretty god awful. Thanks for a good video though!

You know what's weird? The Three Stooges movie somehow managed to make the characters FIT with modern times in how they looked and that may have helped in how they dressed which still looked similar to the dressed down outfits the Stooges wore in a lot of shorts and the fact that in some aspects of those choices, it hasn't really changed that much over the years with some exception. Laurel and Hardy wearing the classic suits in modern times just doesn't.....work, even if it's supposed to be played up for comedy. I don't know why this couldn't have just been a period piece. I know other films have taken the same joke and done better with it but the characters having their classic looks in such a late 90s/2000 looking era doesn't blend well. =\ And as someone who has heard of the duo but never watched them as a kid (I am a Stooges fan) going back an bingeing on shorts this movie just doesn't nail it. Stan was an airhead and didn't talk that much in the shorts which played well with his character and in those instances when he did talk (and wasn't crying) he still had some wit to him. And Ollie's bossy and arrogant personality didn't come off as desperate and pathetic as it does in this movie. While watching the shorts, I was loving how Ollie, despite everything that kept happening at his expense, just kept trying to prove that he was always right and the 4th wall breaks between him and the viewers were perfect. And you're right, the cuddly look of the original Oliver works better considering the general idea for comedy is the fat one is always the dumb one but Ollie is the leader and VERY forward and loud and the cuddly look of him made him look sillier whenever he raged out. If anything, they comes off as if someone got them mixed up with the Stooges which, despite them coming from the same era, are NOT the same in style. There are enough differences in their characterization and act that they have their own distinct flavors but this is just a bad combo of both, added in with Abbot and Costello with the supernatural elements they put in. It's just a mess of a story and the characters just aren't funny and the added ones are boring. Also...that's supposed to be that chick's dad right? Anyone getting some creepy vibes to how he keeps talking to her and feeling her up? I mean, yeah. Nice to see that he loves his kid but given the whole plot is about this woman being waifu bait for so many people.....eeeeeuuuurgh!

I’ve not seen much Laurel and Hardy, but I have enjoyed what I’ve seen. Their comedy was revolutionary and set the standard for the industry. This mess of a film takes a massive dump on said legacy.

Hardy being played by Gailard Sartain makes sense when you realise that the movie was directed by the creator of the Ernest movies, John Cherry As a side, the Ernest movies are admittedly not great, but I do enjoy the character, mostly because Jim Varney is a really enjoyable actor
