I've always been told "if you can't make it perfect, make it adjustable" and it seems Beretta are applying the same philosophy to this, not a bad thing as it means Beretta only have to make one model the same way to have it suit a lot more people.

I am a big believer in adjustable combs. However, I don't understand why manufacturers don't make them so that you can go lower, not higher. I have a long neck like you, and lower is almost always what I need. Otherwise I need to bury my snout into the comb .
@jcbabb2Ай бұрын
I agree! There are those of us out there that need more drop, and there simply isn’t anything out there to make it happen. You can add a rib, or have a custom stock made. Why not just allow for a bit more drop in the comb???

Adding weight to the action plus the laminate is heavier than normal walnut, This reminds me a lot of the older 682 (not a bad thing). Most interesting o/u from Beretta in years

The 688 will fill a long-needed gap in the Beretta dedicated clay target line that won't break the bank. I think most shooters would agree that a new 680 series introduction is by no means a bad thing! 😀

My head loves the laminate and my heart loves the wood. It’s that simple for me. I’ve had multiple long guns’ accuracy improved drastically with a swap to laminate. So, I absolutely appreciate its place. However, when it came to my most recent (Beretta) purchase, what did I go for? Quality walnut.

Johnny, thank you for your videos! Truth be known I’m quite fond of beretta shotguns. I have a K80 that never leaves my safe, and choose my 694 time and time again. I’ve been on the fence of stepping into a DT11, only because of the width of the action, so an SL2 is on my radar. I also have a beautiful specimen 682gold greystone that is too nice to use as frequently as I shoot. I had considered passing the 682g to my son, but I may nab this 688 as an upgrade to his a300. Love the channel! Catch you at Sandanona on your next visit. Come with Solomons in July!

Funnily enough I was handed one of these in a gun shop to look at on Thursday. If I’d been blindfolded I’d have said it was a Browning as there was a bit more meat in the action and wrist than I’m used to in a Beretta. I’ve got smallish hands for a full size man and it didn’t feel too big. I looked it over and was impressed, then looked at the tag and it was genuinely £1000 less than I expected! I’m not an expert on Beretta nomenclature so 688 didn’t give me a clue as to where it sits in the lineup, but it makes sense when it was explained. I was impressed overall - I like laminate on a clay gun and my only gripe was the checkering was a bit sharp on my soft hands!

So curious. You seem to shoot that better than the custom gun you had made at beretta. Am I right? I wonder if you shoot it so well since it has 55mm drop at the heel which is lower than most over the counter guns. I notice that you don't have to hunch your shoulder up so much like you do with other over the counter guns you shoot

Was looking into getting 828U Sport as I'm not a fan of the classic look of over-unders (I'm new to clay shooting). That was pretty much the only shotgun I liked the look of even tho it is quite expensive for me. I'll definitely consider this over that gun as from what I can tell it's also cheaper while I only want the gun to look good - I'll be doing the shooting.
@dingbat9801Ай бұрын
I would strongly recommend NOT buying an 828. They are horrible on recoil, I would go as far as to say “punishing.” Look up almost any review not put out by Benelli and you will see what I’m saying is true. I would strongly suggest shooting any gun you’re interested in before making that investment. This 688 would be twice the gun for clays that the 828 is and yes I’m well aware Beretta owns Benelli. But the 828 was a huge misstep for whom ever designed it in my opinion.

The laminate stocks are nice, I have one a tikka, the 688 is probably great as a first gun, it’s got that modern industrial look to it, which I guess is a matter of taste. As I have a 686 and a 690 already, I’m more interested in the recoil factor is there a difference between this and the 694 and a DT11 if so how much. I’m stuck on the beretta train, and would like to try a ACS gun, curious to see if a more heads up position is a benefit.

@timbacus9698Ай бұрын
I would recommend getting the left hand version if you're a lefty. This gun has a very pronounced palm swell on the grip. I shoot left handed but most of my guns are right handed and it's not usually a problem but the very pronounced palm swell on the 694 caused me to go with a left handed version of that gun. You will appreciate the better fit of the left handed version.

I didn’t like this gun when I first saw it but I do think it has a place it’s just a shame they didn’t use the 690 action over the 680 series to base this gun on price wise I think it sits too near a 694 if it was a few hundred more then a 686 it would be incredibly good value and probably sell more.
